Ring:
Ready made florist's wire ring, 9" to 10"
diameter
or two rolls of green rubber coated garden
wire - one of medium thickness and one thinner and more pliable
Wire cutting pliers
4 1/2 yd. of black or dark green wide bias
binding
Black or dark green tissue paper - enough
to wrap around the ring in a loose
spiral
Black or dark green thread
Selection of evergreen foliage sprigs, each
4" to 6" long
3 1/4 yd of 3/8" wide red satin ribbon
Posies:
30 shiny wrapped pieces of candy - 15 each
in red and green (if you want to use unwrapped chocolate truffles or after
dinner mints so that the wreath can form a table centerpiece for a dinner
party, then use small quantities of foil paper in different colors)
1 1/2 yd. of 1 1/2" wide satin ribbon to hang
the ring
1 1/2 yd. of ruffled eyelet trim
1 1/2 yd of green rubber coated garden wire
for tying
Immerse the sprigs in water for a few hours
before making the ring.
Making the ring:
Using the thicker wire, make two rings, one
8" in diameter and one 10", each formed from three circles of wire and
held together with cellophane tape at four evenly spaced points.
Place the smaller ring inside the larger one
and, using the thinner wire, lace them
together by double twisting the wire around each ring alternately, working
progressively around until the two rings a firmly fixed together.
Twist any sharp ends so that they point inward.
Take a sheet of tissue paper and loosely roll
it up along its length, then very loosely
twist the paper cylinder into a spiral. Lay it around the front of
the wire circle to give bulk to the top (visible) side. You may find
that you need to use more than one sheet of tissue paper to cover the entire
circle.
Open out the bias binding and press it flat.
Use the tape to bind the tissue paper
to the rings, passing the tape in and out of the rings and
working around in a spiral. Take care not to crush the paper, and
overlap the previous round of binding by approximately a third of its width
at each turn. In this way pockets will be formed into which the sprigs
of foliage can be inserted.
Take the darker foliage first and strip off
the lower leaves to expose about 1
1/2" of stem. Working always in the same direction, insert
the stems under the overlapping bands of binding. Build up the ring
in this manner until it looks dense and bushy, finishing off with lighter
colored foliage. Use smaller sprigs to fill in any thin looking areas.
When the ring looks well covered, use the
thread to bind around the foliage, placing the thread out of sight under
the surface greenery. Any pieces that protrude beyond the others
can be lightly pruned away.
The Posies:
Take dark thread and tie it first around the
end of one piece of candy then bind
it firmly to the next. Holding the ends firmly in the
fingers of one hand, continue to tie on pieces
of candy, winding the thread tightly
around each one several times and in and out of the other pieces of candy
in random directions until they are all firmly bound together at one end.
Make six groups of candy in this manner.
Cut the ruffled eyelet trim into six 10" lengths
and sew small running stitches along
the ruffled edges. Gather each one up to measure 4" and fasten with
several small stitches. Sew the raw edges together, forming a ruffled
circle of lace.
Take each cluster of candy and twist a short
length of wire around its base.
Place the cluster inside the eyelet ring and fasten the whole posy very
firmly to the fir wreath by winding the wire around the padded ring.
Finish off by cutting the narrow red ribbon
into two equal lengths of 1 5/8 yd.
Fasten the ends on the underside and working in opposite directions, wind
both lengths around the ring so that they form a cross between each posy.
Use the wider ribbon to tie a bow at the top
of the wreath.
DIAPER CAKE
Unfold 2 diapers at the crotch but do not unfold
the sides of the diaper. Staple
the very top front of one diaper to the very top back of the second diaper.
The idea is to make one big long string of diapers that you will roll up
to make the shape of a round cake. Keep stapling on diapers until
you have the size roll you want. Make the beginning roll very tight
so the cake doesn't end up looking like a donut. Also you want the
outside part of the diaper to show -- not the inside.
Secure the last end to the rolled up part
with a diaper pin. Add another
smaller roll of diapers on the top if desired. Stick Q-tips
into the layers to look like candles on top of
the cake. Decorate the sides by taping on little baby goodies like
nail clippers, a thermometer, etc.
The idea is not to poke holes in the outside covering of the diapers so
the mother can use them later.
Put it on a pedestal cake plate and from a
distance it looks like a real cake!

-----FOLLOW UP WITH-----
FACIAL RINSING LOTIONS or
FRESH FACIAL CREAM
** After using a mask, it's a good idea to follow up with either FACIAL RINSING LOTIONS or FRESH FACIAL CREAM.
1. Peach Tightening Mask: Whip peach and egg white together in a
blender until smooth.
Gently pat mixture all over your face, relax 30 minutes, then rinse
off with cool water.
2. Strawberry Drawing Mask: Mix strawberries and cornstarch together
to make a paste and apply to face, avoiding the delicate area around your
eyes. Leave on for 30 minutes and rinse off with cool water.
3. Apple Mask for Normal Skin: Drop apple into food processor and
chop. Add honey and sage and refrigerate 10 minutes. Pat mixture onto your
face with a light tapping motion, tapping until honey feels tacky. Leave
on for 30 minutes, rinse. 4. Cucumber Mask for Oily Skin: Puree all and
refrigerate 10 minutes. Apply mixture to your face and leave on 15 minutes.
Rinse with hot, then cool water.
5. Blemished Skin Mask: Blend all until just combined. Apply to
skin, making sure the mixture is thick enough to stay on blemished areas:
cheeks, forehead, or chin. Add a bit more oatmeal to thicken the mask,
if necessary. Leave on 10 minutes, then scrub off with a clean washcloth
dipped in warm water.
