Mintons Baked PotatoA baked potato loses some of its majesty if it isn't a big fat one, so go for the biggest one in the bag, give it a good wash and while it is still damp, sprinkle it with a little crushed sea salt. Prick the skin here and there with a fork and bake on the bars of a pre-heated oven at 200°C (Gas mark 6) for 60-75 minutes, depending on the size of the potato. You will know that the potato is done when it gives to a little pressure from thumb and forefinger. It will also be singing quietly to itself and its skin will crackle as you lift it from the oven. Remove immediately and hit it with the side of your hand wrapped in a tea towel, hard enough to barely split the skin, but not so hard as to need to re-decorate the kitchen! A plume of steam will rise from the potato with a rush, leaving inside a mass of light, powdery, moist fluff. Immediately add real dairy butter, and a topping of your choice. Who would have guessed that so much detail goes into preparing the most basic food at Mintons? |
