disappear fear
The summer after my freshman year in high school, my friend gave me a copy of a mix tape she had made, called "Women of Power" (she now claims that I made this name up, but I swear, she's the one who gave it that name!). The tape had a couple of songs by disappear fear on it, and I was hooked by their unapologetically folky style and their overwhelmingly positive sound. Now Sonia Rutstein (SONiA), the woman who wrote most of the songs, sang lead vocals, played guitar, etc., for the band, has released her own solo album, Almost Chocolate. I highly recommend both disappear fear and SONiA.
Favorite Album
Seed In The Sahara (though disappear fear is a close runner-up).
Favorite Song
"Sexual Telepathy"--the ultimate sing-along-in-the-car song!
Favorite Lyric
"My name is America, but I pronounce it George/Some people think I'm rich but I am mostly poor/But I'll cover it up to get you to fight in my wars."--from "Washington Work Song"
As far as links go, you should first visit SONiA's official site.
Then you can look at some pictures of SONiA... and that's all I've found so far.
