Travel Onward
Travel Onward, you are at the window of the train
Carrying your papers in your pocket
Thinking of the crimes you've left behind you, done and gone
Looking for a way that you can walk it
And you are leaving, yes, you're gone forever
There's no turning back now
Except when it is never
And there's nothing to go home to anyway
You've gone to shed the meaning of this place
Gone now are the days when you can smile and hang your head
Gone now are the memories to grade you
Now there's just a train to ride on, silent through the night
Take you to a place that will not fade you
Think of the old lady and the way she closed her eyes
Her wind swept through the hallways, small and sour
It got so that you never knew if she were near or far
And who would be the next one she'd devour
Think of how the old man placed his curse upon your head
Silenced you by making you his heiress
Named you Travel Onward, now he find you seeking ways
To prove that in his portrait he is careless
This old farm will always stand in memory, not in fact
Red and white and green as we have known her
And if someone should leave her, she should not burn to the ground
For everybody's seen that they can own her
