This classification of wines is established by the Consejos Reguladores of each region and the Denominaciones de Origen.

 CATEGORIES OF WINES:

VINO DEL AÑO- Jóven - Wine of the year which is not aged in the barrel.

CRIANZA -Wines in their third year which have been aged a minimum of one year in oak casks (barricas de roble).

RESERVA - Specially selected wines from top years aged a minimum of three years in oak casks (barricas de roble) and the bottle. There must be one half of this aging time in the cask.

GRAN RESERVA - Wines made in great years which are aged a minimum of two years (dos años) in oak casks (barricas) and a total of three years in the bottle.
