The
original stone section of our unique building was erected
in 1849 by John Bunn on the site of the Bullion's Tavern.
It was originally intended to be a blacksmith's shop, but
instead was opened as an inn called the Old Stone Hotel.
The back frame section was added in 1882 by Lewis Doty at
which time the hotel was known as Doty's. In 1910 it was
called the Bernardsville Hotel. Shortly thereafter, the
moniker Old Stone Hotel was reinstated and ownership
changed multiple times. In 1978, the name was changed to
Freddy's, by which it is still popularly known today.
In October, 1996, the building became
the site of the Bernardsville Stone Tavern and Brewery.
