Buttermilk Biscuits
2 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
2 t. baking powder
1 t. salt
1 T. sugar (optional)
1/2 t. baking soda
1/2 c. Crisco
1/2 c. buttermilk, more if needed
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Sift flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and baking soda. Cut in the Crisco until mixture is course. Slowly add buttermilk, making sure not to leave mixture too moist. Knead dough on a floured (not too much) board. Shape into with your hands for drop biscuits or use a biscuit cutter for round ones. Place biscuits on a greased cookie sheet and bake 15-20 minutes.
