This recipe does not contain buttermilk, but promises the biscuits are not unlike the Colonel's.

Sift together dry ingredients. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles crumbs. Combine beaten egg and milk. Add to flour mixture all at once. Stir until dough follows fork around bowl. Turn out on lightly floured surface. Kneed lightly with heel of hand 20 times. Pat into circle of desired thickness. Cut with biscuit cutter. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 10 to 14 minutes at 450°
