Mrs. McFarland’s Biscuits (1946)
1 cup flour (general, not bread, cake, or self-raising flour)
1 Tbs. sugar
2 heaping Tbs. shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
milk
Sift dry ingredients three times (use wax paper). Rub shortening in dry ingredients with fingers until well blended. Moisten with milk until dough is formed.
Roll with rolling pin about 1/2 inch thick. Cut (rounds, or whatever you choose).
Grease your baking sheet and bake at 450· F about ten minutes.
