Home Ec Ginger Snaps

Sift together:
2 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp each cinnamon, ginger, cloves

In another bowl, cream together
3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sugar

Beat in
1/4 cup molasses
1 egg

Preheat oven to 350 F and lightly grease some cookie sheets.
Add the flour mixture 1/3 at a time and mix well .
Form into walnut sized balls and dip in granulated sugar. If you want to
be decorative, the colored crystalized sugars from the supermarket will
work, but a drop or two of food coloring mixed into a few tablespoons of
granulated sugar works as well. Place on the cookie sheets sugar side
up.
Bake about 10 minutes. Slightly undercooked is better than overcooked,
because the molasses is vulnerable to scorching.
