Bluebird Anniversary Cake

February, 1998

This was a 50th Anniversary cake for people who are very dear to me. Bluebirds were specifically requested by thier daughter, because the couple had seen a flock of them while on their honeymoon, and considered it a good omen for thier marriage.

I used a "golden" yellow background color with matching borders and scroll work on the sides, and added a foil anniversary seal. Flowers were made with royal icing -- deeper yellow roses, orange apple blossoms, and small blue drop flowers (to pick up the colors on the bluebirds while keeping a "golden" theme).

The bluebirds themselves were made from a white plastic ornament of 2 doves on a branch. Colors were painted on one at a time with thinned royal icing, and allowed to dry. I was very pleased with the way it came out, as were the anniversary couple and their children. :-)
