My travels You will find some pictures of travels I made if you click here. A special trip is worth mentioning. In 1998 the University of Nijmegen celebrated its 75th anniversary. One of the activities was an expedition to the North-West of Greenland. Together with 14 other students and a crew of 5 leaders I went to Qaanaaq (Thule), the northernmost permanent settlement in the world. The major goal of the expedition was to investigate the problems which threaten the Inuit society in Qaanaaq. Fields of research during this trip were environmental issues, cultural and social changes, economical possibilities and tourism. Furthermore, two trekkings across the Greenland icecap were undertaken. Some pictures you will find here. Pieter and Aukje |
