5/4-5/9/04 Albright-Knox Art Gallery. The origin of modern sculpture begins with Rodin and the reaction he provoked by reconfiguring the human form. Before him, figurative sculpture had been wedded to the classical canons of beauty and form. No previous sculptor had envisioned or conceived the human figure as a fragmented or partial entity, nor had they explored sexuality and eros with such candid conviction.

An out-of-town director is hired to stage SAINT JOAN in a small cheese-making town in Illinois, but a sudden death soon disrupts the close community. The director and the actress playing Joan of Arc soon take on the moral and religious edifice of the entire town in a daringly theatrical endeavor that promises to be THE CRUCIBLE for our time.
