This is the only special issued in Australia for the new millennium.
A revolutionary designed can has a plastic sleeve shrank around it. The
sleeve is a holograph which displays different colours when the can rotated.
On the face it reads "This is one of only 2000 limited edition Tooheys
New beer cans that have been produced to celebrate the beginning of the
new millennium".
The can was issued as a fund-raiser for the New South Wales State Emergency Services (S.E.S.). Cases of cans were donated to each branch of the S.E.S. to be raffled off, at $2.00 per ticket.. For some reason, the S.E.S. is not mentioned anyplace on the can. Apparently only 2000 of these cans were produced. It has been estimated that the special run represents one minute of production. On this basis, the value of each can has been estimated by experts to be between $10 and $20. A problem with the design is that the cans cannot be safely refrigerated. Moisture seeps under the label, causing it to separate from the surface of the can and spoiling the appearance. Because of the low number produced and the popularity of the theme, this will be one of the most desirable Australian cans of recent times. I look forward to seeing the prices when the cans start to appear on eBay. Unfortunately I don't have any spares to trade. |
