Three million men fought in the war and 600,000 men died in the war. Rochester supplied troops to the Union government from the beginning of the war to the end of the war. Rochester Men fought in most of the major battles and many died. Some died from disease, some died of starvation in prison camps, and others died on the field of battle; one sailor won the Medal of Honor.
