The first newspaper published in Rochester was named The Rochester Review. The publisher was named D. Warren Furber. It was a weekly newspaper and the first issue was dated September 16, 1858. The paper came out every Thursday but by 1860 the paper had gone out of business. The second newspaper was named The Workman's Protest and was published by John H. Fuller. The newspaper was published on a monthly basis and it was intended to be read by the many employees of the shoe factories. It too had a short life span, by 1860 it was no more. On January 22, 1864 the Rochester Courier was first published. The publisher was named J. Frank Place and it started out as a weekly newspaper, published on Fridays. The Rochester Courier survived for over a century anf it was just recently they stopped publication. |
