The folowing Rochester men made the ultimate sacrifice in World War I
The first Rochester man to be killed in World War I was Private George Maxfield of the 23rd U.S. Infantry. On June 13, 1918 he was struck down by enemy fire outside of Chateau Thierry. The Rochester VFW Post is named in honor of George Maxfield. He was but 17 years old when he enlisted.

Andrew F. Connell - Killed in action September 26, 1918
Alvah W. Emerson - Died of Disease on February 15, 1918
Joseph Francis Horne - Died of pneumonia on December 29, 1917
Norman Little - Killed by explosion of shell (he was a former resident of Rochester)
Benjamin Quinlan - Died of pneumonia
Charles Sanborn - Died of influenza
Earle C. Stanly - Died of typhoid fever on July 2, 1918
Leon G. Townsend - Unknown date
Erving Veno - Killed in action on July 19, 1918
Clifton Wormhood - Died of accident September 1918
