To avoid confusion and so that everyone is enforcing the same rules, please do not allow players to wear earrings during games. Even if they claim that they have just gotten their ears pierced, they have to take their earrings off or they choose to not play in the game.

Putting Band-Aids or tape over the earrings will not allow them to play the game neither.

The player taking his/her earring(s) off for the duration of the game will not cause ear piercing to close up. If the player wants to play the game he/she will have to take the earring(s) off for the duration of the game  Please be aware that these rules are enforced for the safety of the kids!

The referee is responsible to make the game safe. He/she has absolute authority in connection with his/her duty to enforce the laws of the game

See FIFA Laws of the Game 2004/2005 page 15. Safety

A player must not use equipment or wear anything which is dangerous to himself or another player(including any kind of jewelry)

Also, the CSA General Laws specify this rule (see below) and were given to all CSA board members, coaches, and referees earlier in the fall soccer season. Here is the specific wording:

The Players Equipment (Law 4):

All players must wear shin guards and socks that completely cover the shin guards
Players footwear may be cleats or tennis shoes
Jewelry of any kind (watches, earrings, etc.) or any other metallic accessories will absolutely not be allowed

The Referee (Law 5):

The center referee has absolute authority in connection with his or her duty to enforce the laws of the game
