Hummus
submitted by happymummy
- 2 cups chick peas aka garbanzo beans (canned ones are much easier than dried) - will need some of the liquid
- 2 cloves garlic (I use one these days)
- 1 Tablespoon Tahini (it's a paste from sesame seeds)
- 1 Tablespoon Mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup Lemon Juice
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- Salt and Pepper
Blend above and add liquid from chick peas to adjust to desired consistency. It should be thick yet runny. Garnish with paprika if desired.
I use homous mostly on pita - lightly butter the pita then toast or bake - but have also used it on salads, as a veggie dip and in lieu of mayonnaise - esp on a veggie sandwich.
