Subject: Eddy's C.D. !!!
Hi Rune ~ Just visited Eddy's
site as I do several times each day. Thank you for the kind words
for Eddy's seriously ill manager...and for signing guest book.
I'm glad you like the songs on his soon to be released C.D. It was
nice of you to take the time and effort to list all the song tract of this
C.D.
It really wasn't necessary...as if you click
on his new C.D. announcement on home page of this site. You will
see all the song tracks listed. But all was not in vain...as
I'm sure it will help bring it to the attention of others that missed this.
Being a good fan of Eddy...won't you please read Frank Cunningham's article
also on home page? We, as a committee, lead by Frank Cunningham,
are trying to get Eddy elected for the Kennedy Art's Center Award.
An honors that he so richly deserves. Just a short message
of your endorsement to Frank is all that is needed...to add you to our
list. Won't you please do it NOW ?.....Thanking you in
advance on behalf of the Committee. Don. Stewart.

Hi Bill,
Smiles to you~~~
I'm the creator of the Possum Twins, new animation

I met Dr. Arnold the other day at a restaurant
in Nashville. He is such a delight. My friend was in the truck
of her car when Dr. Arnold came along and rolled down his window.
I'm still laughing at his little remark. He is such a delight--filled
with charm.
After going to his site, I couldn't believe
that he hadn't received such an honor. As my possums would say: Nothing
is impossumable! I think it is about time for him to pick up those
honors. He has my vote!

I think that Mr. Arnold is one of the best
voices to ever sing a song. My other favorite singer is Conway Twitty.
He was also snubbed by the industry even though he had more number 1 hits
than anybody in any category. I wonder what Mr. Arnold thinks about him.

Just a short note to collectors...There is
an EA Lp called EA sings Christmas put out by the US Airforce somewhere
in the '60s. I bought a copy on Ebay that I thought was a reprint of some
of his good Christmas music. To my surprise these are all fresh,
new arrangements of these works and includes also introductions and story
lines spoken by Mr. Arnold in a format quite like the old Kraft shows.
Did not see this in your Discography...could scan the jacket if you want.
It was never a for sale item..as true of his work for Social Security.
Never the less it was a joy to listen to. Good wishes to all fans!

Subject: New Eddy Arnold CD titled "Looking
back"
Dear Bill Comer,
I have visited your website and found the
sad news that Jerry Purcell is seriously ill. I wish him the best
possible recovery.
Thanks to your information I was able to purchase
the "Welcome to my world" 3 CD-set from Purcell's office. That set from
Reader's Digest is in my opinion the best Eddy Arnold collection available
on CD since it combines Eddy's greatest hits with other truly great songs
and Eddy's superb versions of other artists hits.
I also look forward to the new Eddy Arnold
CD titled "Looking back" that will be released February 5. I found track
listing information at the CDUniverse website. The tracks are as follows:
1. Half as Much
2. Baby, That's Living
3. Here Comes Heaven
4. Nothing But Time
5. Gentle on My Mind
6. Little Green Apples
7. Faded Love
8. I Wish I Didn't Love You So
9. Lay Some Happiness on Me
10. Honey
11. Other Side of Lonely
12. New World in the Morning
13. Here Comes the Rain, Baby
14. It's Such a Pretty World Today
15. Lonely Street
16. What a Wonderful World
I think this compilation of songs is excellent
and it also includes some tracks that are not found on other CD's as far
as I know of.

Rune Olav Vetaas

All Eddy Arnold fans owe a great debt to the
efforts Frank Cunningham has put into the Kennedy Center campaign.
He has taken my dream into a higher realm. His work is top notch
and every letter he sends is sent with the determination it will happen!!
He never gives up either. Come December I truly believe Eddy Arnold
will be in the 2002 group at the center. If not I will come to the
conclusion that talent of the most extraordinary kind are unimportant.
I pray this is not the case. Thanks Frank. I for one am happy
you love Eddy so much!!
I first met Bill Shoop at the Tupperware Auditorium
in Kissimmee, Florida in 1992. Eddy had just finished his concert
and a few guests were allowed backstage by his manager, Jerry Purcell.
Even then, Bill was so enthusiastic about Eddy and concerned that Eddy
was not receiving the recognition and the awards which he deserves.
As far back as fourteen years ago, Bill has been making telephone calls
and writing letters to help Eddy received the accolades he deserves.
Thank you Bill for your perseverance and I agree wholeheartedly with the
kind words you wrote about Frank Cunningham. Bill Comer

Before Bill Comer started this fantastic web

Every quarter Jerry would let me know the
latest scoop on Eddy. Any new releases and his concert schedule.
At least once a year Eddy would perform out
west, Tahoe, Vegas or Laughlin Nev. Before each show I would spot Mr. Purcell
out front near Eddy's memorabilia stand and say Hello. Everytime he would
always tell me to wait outside after the show and he would take me back
stage to say hello to Eddy.
Jerry is a big part of my Eddy Arnold experience.
Get well soon.

It was Jerry in the early 60's that turned Eddy's career around when it
appeared it was going no where. He bought him tuxedoes and custom
made shoes and shirts. Then booked him into Carnegie Hall in N.Y.C.
which turned his career around , not only was he popular on the country
charts , but on the "Pop" charts as well. As we all know... the rest
is history. Eddy owes a lot to Jerry Purcell and I'm sure he would

Hi Bill,
I just visited your web site for Eddy Arnold.
It's very well done and befits the stature of a man such as Eddy Arnold.
My wife and I just moved to Franklin, Tennessee
and I believe Eddy lives close by in Brentwood. It's nice having
someone like him living close by.
I was telling my wife about a song that Eddy
recorded many years ago entitled, "Don't Rob Another Man's Castle".
Is there a web site where I can see all the words to that song? If
not, I'll just go buy the CD which I should do anyway.
Thanks for taking the time to read my email.

Brad: My buddy, Don Stewart, will
email you the lyrics. I agree with you that you should buy the CD as more
are sold the record companies will issue more. Bill Comer

I went back to Sam's Club when I came back

Arnold can be heard in Denmark.

Hi, Frank . . . We don't actually have an
appropriate place to post a stand-alone press release at our site.
Releases are usually tied in to other features (contests/promotions, etc.)
and posted on those pages. But I'd be happy to pass the information
along to Neil Haislop, our daily news and Country Q&A feature host.
He has an e-mail newsletter he sends out to the country music industry,
including many radio stations and also hosts the daily news (Nashville
Update).
I'll forward the info to our Classic Hit Country
radio format operations manager, as well. Classic Hit Country's Lew Jones
hosts a classic country Q&A for us called "Checkin' In With The Classics"
in addition to his on-air work. You'll love his Q&A, plus you
can visit the archives there to enjoy Q&As you've missed from weeks
past & even submit your own question. Just
visit us at http://www.countrystars.com <http://www.countrystars.com>
, mouse over the ARTISTS button in our home page options and click on "Legends"
from the drop-down menu. You'll also find a link to our Country Legends
section at the INSIDE COUNTRY posting on our home page.
Enjoy!

Dear Ms Render:
Thank you for your response. I heard
from a colleague of mine that he inquired about having an article written
about Dr. Richard Edward (Eddy) Arnold. The person responding was
a Carey Winfrey with "It didn't fit our need". This amazes me as
Dr. Arnold is a precedent setting performing artist and it has always been
my understanding that your organization was interested in "pure Americana".
If Dr. Arnold is not "pure America' then Lindbergh did not cross the Atlantic.
As recently as November 28, 2001, Dr Arnold
was recognized on the floor of the House of Representatives for his 60th
wedding anniversary to his wife sally. This alone in today's society
is "pure Americana."
Although my credentials are such, it is not
my intent to write an article about Dr. Arnold, submit it and find its
way to the waste paper basket. It is my intention to have one
of your esteemed writers undertake the task.
As an example of accomplishments by Dr. Arnold
I offer the following:
Mr. Johnny Cash considers Eddy Arnold to be
"…the best singer in the history of country music".
-He did not retire until 81 years old.
-Only performer to be number one for a total
of 145 weeks during his career.
-Seven consecutive decades on Billboard's
charts. The only performer to achieve this success.
-First country entertainer to appear on network
TV - Milton Berle, 1949
-First country entertainer to have own TV
show-CBS-1952-Perry Como replacement
-First country entertainer to have two careers,
one in country and one in popular music.
-Only entertainer to have been on Billboard's
Charts in four categories, Pop-Country-Gospel-Christmas (special category)
-Honored by the National Endowment For The
Arts
-Life Time Achievement Award -Governor of
Tennessee
-Country Music Hall of Fame
-National Medal of Arts - President Clinton
-A new title from Mr. Eddy Arnold to Dr. Richard
Edward Arnold -Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts, Washington College, Chestertown,
MD September 6, 2001
-Most importantly, married to his wife Sally
for 60 years. Honored by Rep. Bob Clement on the floor of the U.
S. House of Representatives, November 28, 2001 for their anniversary.
Listed in the Congressional Record in perpetuity.
"Eddy Arnold took country music to the city,
anointed it with his voice (and occasional (yodel), backed it with orchestra,
and became the most popular country singer of the 20th century".
-Classic Country
Music
President Clinton spoke the following words
when he presented the Medal to Eddy Arnold:
…”In his career, he's made records that broke
all records. His Bouquet of Roses stayed on the charts longer than
any country song in history, even down to today. And he's had more
hits than any other country artist. He brought music into millions
of homes across America”.
He has earned the title, The Ambassador of
Country Music, and we are honored to
honor him today, Mr. Eddy Arnold."
Arnold's first chart record "Each Minute Seems
A Million Years" hit number five to begin that string of 58 consecutive
top ten hits. In 1947 Arnold scored his first three number one hits, "What
Is Life Without Love," "It's a Sin" and "I'll Hold You In My Heart (Till
I Can Hold You In My Arms)" with the latter staying at number one for 21
weeks. The following year Eddy hit the top with two of his signature songs,
"Anytime and "Bouquet of Roses" At this point he had become the first true
country to pop crossover artist.

Of course I could go on but suffice it to say, you may have an exclusive in this story as your article would be the first to be in the publics' eyes before the Kennedy Center Honors in 2002.

THIS. STAY AFTER GAYLORD IN ANY WAY THAT YOU CAN.
In a message dated 1/4/2002 7:55:39 AM Central
Standard Time, PianoPKS writes:
distributes ESPN Radio, on Monday.
WSM-AM is an ABC affiliate. ESPN is a division
of Capital Cities/ABC. Picking up WSM-AM Nashville as an affiliate would
be a major feather in ESPN Radio's cap.
Also unclear is whether the Nashville Predators
and NASCAR broadcasts currently aired on WWTN-FM will shift to WSM-AM when
the changes take effect; whether The Grand Ole Opry will be moved from
WSM-AM to WSM-FM; how Gaylord's hoped-for syndication of The Opry
will affect things; and which WSM-AM announcers will be moved to the FM
side on a merged station.
Among the many others affected by this dizzying
series of moves will be those at WNSR-AM, currently Nashville's ESPN Radio
outlet but a station dogged by a terribly weak signal. WSM-AM has a 50,000-watt
signal, the most allowed under Federal Communications Communications regulations
for AM stations in the United States, and its nighttime signal is said
to reach 38 states.
WNSR-AM560 management said that their agreement
with ESPN Radio was still in effect, but that both sides had easy-out clauses
that could be quickly implemented.
WSM-AM has been a traditional country outlet
since 1983, but prior to that was a variety station. Country Music Hall
of Famer Owen Bradley was the station's music director from 1947-58.
But what is to become of WSM-AM's announcers
now?
"With men like DJ Hall of Famer Hairl Hensley,
Keith Bilbrey with three decades at WSM, and Eddie Stubbs who is an incredible
walking encyclopedia of country music . . . where will they go?" country
journalist Hazel Smith asked. "What will they do? Since the (Country Music)
Hall of Fame dropped historian Ronnie Pugh it seems country music has gone
wild with youth. CMT is embarrassing. I guess they want us to have no-talents
like (teen pop star) Britney Spears showing off their navel, waving their
arms and lip-synching."
That's a far cry indeed from Hank Williams,
who died 49 years ago this week.
Opry member Billy Walker, who opened for Williams
early in his career, said: "I suppose it's a sad day for the country music
business, because WSM-AM is the last country station."
Hank Locklin, who like Walker has been an
Opry member since 1960, says: "It's like losing an old friend."
Others in Nashville broadcasting took a different
view.
"Getting away from tradition, some of this
makes broadcast business sense to me," said one prominent Music City air
personality. "I think I'm more of a traditionalist when it comes to this
business than many of my contemporaries."
Gaylord has been very active in recent months,
following a reported $24.5 million deficit in the third quarter of 2001.
The company lost $105.1 million in 2000.
In December, the firm sold underperforming
Christian label Word for $84.1 million. Gaylord then rode to the rescue
of the Music City Bowl, buying the naming rights for the game in a $1.6
million, three-year agreement.
A few years ago, Gaylord hired ex-Arista Nashville
head Tim DuBois to start its own record label. Things did not work out,
and DuBois is teaming with MCA Nashville president Tony Brown to start
a new Universal imprint that will likely begin operations this week.
So as one country tradition ends, another
is just beginning.
Eddy Arnold fans: It appears that
Country/Western music is under attack. The CMF is without Ronnie
Pugh, Country Music Historian, and now WSM 650 AM is endangered.

I was amazed that Eddy Arnold is the only performer to be listed on four

It is as Don Larkin, a New york City country

you certainly have many. You are fortunate to have met Eddy as I
have never been that lucky. I did see him perform in Wilkes Barre
PA. I am involved in this proceeding as a labor of love as Bill Comer
calls it. If you had a chance to read my article on Bill's site you
can see how a "kid' from Brooklyn N Y got caught up in Eddy's baritone.
I will pass your email to Bill in Orlando

about our efforts is that we are doing this without Eddy's involvement.
His loving nature would never condone promoting himself for these

Subject: HONORING EDDY ARNOLD
Dear Sirs:
I hope I'm sending this email correctly and
that it reaches you.
I'm an 'old' Eddy Arnold fan. My mother
listened to him on the radio, and I 'fell in love with his voice', and
have listened to him and bought his albums, these many years.
In 1952, I was 14 years old. Eddy Arnold appeared
at the 'Mirza Temple' in Pittsburgh, Kansas. He also conducted his radio
broadcast for 'Ralston-Purina' from there.
My Grandmother bought tickets for the two
of us. I sat in the audience of the Mirza Temple, absolutely enthralled,
the performance was so wonderful! I just couldn't BELIEVE I was seeing
and hearing 'Eddy Arnold'-- 'in person'!
After the 'broadcast' was over, the audience
was allowed to come on stage for an autograph. Of COURSE, I 'stood in line'!
Eddy Arnold smiled and talked to me as he signed my 'autograph' book. He
seemed genuinely interested and caring that I had attended the show and
'thanked' me, (imagine that!) for being there!
I have 'recalled' that night, so many times
these past 50 years, and the thrill it was for me, to have had the privilege
of 'standing so close to him'. As young as I was, and as little as I knew,
(about anything!), I 'felt' in my heart that 'if ONLY people would take
the time to LISTEN to him', he would become 'famous'. All I knew of him
was that he was a 'struggling young cowboy, with a beautiful voice, who
loved to sing and was trying to make a living doing just that.
Several years later, during the time I was
raising my three little children, Eddy Arnold had his own TV show. He HAD
become 'famous', the people WERE LISTENING to him, and I was 'playing his
songs' for MY babies! Unbelievable!
Would it be possible for you to convey 'my
thanks and appreciation' to Dr. Arnold, for the time he took to make
a 'young girl' feel so 'special', so many years ago, and for all the happiness
his melodious voice has brought to all of us?
Please, be sure to place my name on the list
you'll be sending to the 'Kennedy Center'.
I will eagerly look forward to that TV broadcast
and the honor and recognition that Eddy Arnold is long overdue in receiving.
Thank you, for all YOU are doing to promote
this endeavor.
Respectfully,
Bridget VanHouten
