My father had the blessing of meeting Eddy Arnold and working with him when he did commercials for Formost Dairies. Now, my father, Dick Sendelbach, will celebrate his 85th birthday on August 31. He wants a party with his family and friends, and says he wishes Eddy Arnold could sing for him. I know that can't happen, but some of you may have ideas of how we can make Eddy Arnold present to my father in another way on his special day. Any ideas? My Dad is an incredible, loving person, and I'd like to do something special for him even if we can't have Eddy Arnold there in person.

I have been a fan of Eddy's from the 40"s when Cattle Call" was so popular. In the 60's I bought every record he made. Not only is he the greatest singer I have ever heard he is a the finest gentleman in his field and a credit to the industry.

God has put us on earth to fulfill His plan. He has given us certain talents and gifts. Unfortunately, most people do not fulfill their talents and use their gifts properly. In Eddy Arnold's case he has fulfilled God's plan for him. Eddy has the talent to sing, the gift to love his fellow man. No one is loved unless one loves...and Eddy proves that statement.

I was born in 1960 and thanks to my father I grew up listening to a lot of Eddy Arnold music. At the time I didn't have an appreciation for Eddy's music. It was years later that I recalled his music and what an important part it was of my growing up. Many of my fond memories from my childhood have an Eddy Arnold soundtrack in the background, if you know what I mean. Even today I am kind of a "closet" Eddy Arnold listener as all my contemporaries don't even know who Eddy Arnold is. My wife and daughters cringe when I play his music. But inside I have to laugh because I have a feeling some day in the future my daughters may look back and find an appreciation for his music like I have. Eddy's voice is just too wonderful. It will pass the test of time and then some. Thank you Eddy for all the wonderful music you made.

I heard a recording of Eddy Arnold for the first time on Armed Forces Radio in December, 1944 while returning from a bombing mission over Germany. As radio operator on B-17's I could "pipe" it to the rest of the crew..My best memory tells me the song was "I Walk Alone" and I've been a fan ever since.

Subject: Interesting article
To All:
David Hinckley, the reporter I am trying to get to write about Eddy, wrote an interesting country music article in today's New York Daily News.  Click on web site.  His (newspaper) article has a picture of Emmylou Harris in it.  If we could get Eddy this type of story would be great.  I contacted Hinckley again today.

Hi Mr. Comer,
First off... what a great site you have there, you should be very proud.  Dr. Arnold deserves it.  I have free space on AOL if you should ever need any or if I can ever help with anything on the website.  I'm no "whiz" as far as the internet goes but I can usually fake it well or find out!    :  )
I was hoping you could list this on the "Want to buy" page:
I would like to purchase the single "Bally-Hoo Days"/"Two Hearts Beat Better Than One" PB-12226 RCA VICTOR 1981  Thanks, Gary

Hi Patti ~ Just read you post on Deanna web site....glad you like Eddy's two new songs.   You asked her if she heard of "Bouquet Of Roses".   Please click on the word "HOME" on opening page of her site.   This will take you to the list of all her pages and songs.   Deanna is a great friend of mine and put this song "Bouquet Of Roses"on at my request.  She also put "Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain" for me also.
I then requested her to put on "Where Lonely People Go" for me.  Bill Comer the Web Master of Eddy's site requested "Sweet Bunch Of Daisies"...in Honor of Mr. Eddy Arnold.   As this was Eddy's Mother's favorite song...Bill sent her the music to these two pages.   Bill will call Eddy, and Eddy will at one time view Deanna's page...can you believe this?   If you enjoy Eddy so much please visit Eddy's site at  www.eddyarnold.com  by just clicking on that URL.  Please look at her site again where I just thanked her for putting these two songs on for Bill and I.....but especially for Eddy.   Thanks for signing Deanna's guest book and for liking Eddy's music.   God Bless, Don.         P.S.   Won't you please visit Eddys site and sign guest book.   We as a "Committee" are trying to get Eddy nominated for the Kennedy Art Center Award.   Would you send a short message of your Endorsement of Eddy for this award.   Just click on our Chairman's email  fcunning@ptd.net  and send him your endorsement.   No need for a long letter....just a short endorsement will do.    THANKS !!!

My father will be 88 years old, June 30th. He has multiple myloma and it is in the final stages. He has been a country music fan all of his life and used to play the guitar and banjo many years ago. Eddy is one of his favorite singers. We are having a birthday party for him although his physical condition has deteriorated very badly. If you could send him a birthday note, he would cherish it forever.

Dad says you are a good friend of his and told me about this site. It's great! I grew up listening to Eddy's music and have a brother named after him. My dad lives in Bend, Or and sends me copies of all of Eddy's music. Wonder if he told you about the first time he met Eddy? It was in 1950 or early 1951 that Mom and Dad drove all day to Oklahoma City to see Eddy in concert. After the show they went outside to the performers' exit to try to get to talk with Eddy. His band The Plowboys were there and Dad had a great time talking with them. Mom say Eddy come out of the theater and she tried to tell dad, but he was too busy talking. She kept saying, "Bill there's Eddy! Bill there's Eddy!" until she got frustrated and yelled "BILL LAWRENCE THERE'S EDDY ARNOLD!" Dad whipped around, "Where, where, where?" Mom said he was like a kid and Eddy just laughed and enjoyed every second of this funny scene.

Dear Mr. Johnson:

I proudly nominate Dr. Richard Edward "Eddy" Arnold for the Kennedy Center Honors Awards for the year 2002, as, in my opinion,  he is the greatest singer and performer in the world.

It would be needless for me to attempt to list all of his achievements over the years as your organization has been provided this information from thousands of fans within the past few months.

Suffice to say that Eddy deserves this recognition by your organization and I am amazed that this outstanding American has not received this award previously.

Eddy has touched the hearts of millions of people.  He is truly an outstanding legend and a warm, kind and caring individual.

Many thanks for the outstanding work that you people do at the Center and since your goal is to honor the finest that task will be confirmed when you announce this year that Eddy will be the recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors Award.

Subject: Letter to Governor Bush

The Honorable Jeb Bush
Governor of Florida
Tallahassee, Florida

Dear Governor Bush:

Please allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Shirley Sheppard and I am the Publisher, Editor and contributing writer for the Florida Country Music News, a BMI songwriter, and Operations Manager of TIAC Radio.
I am involved in a campaign to get Eddy Arnold's name added to the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts.
In the past, Eddy has been overlooked and slighted in having his name added to this distinguished list while other country music artists have been inducted, and whose images, I might add, with drug addiction, etc. and talent, are no where near comparable to Eddy Arnold -- in my opinion.
Below is a special edition that I published of the Florida Country Music News a couple of weeks ago, and following that, is a letter written by Mr. Zeke Thomas which pretty well sums up Eddy Arnold.
If you find it appropriate, we would very much appreciate your giving this campaign some notable mention and/or support.
Other political figures such as the Honorable Don Sundquist, Governor of Tennessee, Representatives and Congressmen Ed Bryant, Bob Clement, Bart Gordon, John J. Duncan, Harold Ford, Jr., and Senator Charlotte Burks, to name a few have joined in this most worthy campaign.
It would be a embarrassment to American Society if Eddy is overlooked in having his name added to the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts. If anyone deserves this honor, Eddy Arnold does.
Thank you.
Kindest regards,
Shirley Sheppard

***Eddy Arnold's Proposed Induction to The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts***
I just got off the telephone from talking to Eddy Arnold at his office in Brentwood, Tennessee.  What a delightful man!
The purpose of my call to Eddy was to let him know of this special issue of the Florida Country Music News in asking my subscribers to write or FAX their support letters for Eddy's name to be added to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Other eminent country artists who have met the specific criteria of contribution to their field and to society and selected for this significant honor are Roy Acuff, Johnny Cash, and Willie Nelson.
It is certainly now time for Eddy Arnold!  Quite frankly, it is a mystery to me how someone so distinguished in music for half a century with a slate so spanking clean it is blinding has not already been bestowed this honor. How has this man and all that he has contributed to America's music been overlooked?
Eddy was very spry and cordial this morning on the phone, and that great bear tone voice was as stable and steady as ever with no hint of a man eighty-four years old!  I asked Eddy how he spends his days since his retirement and he replied in that laid-back manner of his, "Why, I come into my office and work every day since my retirement three years ago."  Me being me, I got off on the deterioration of country (and pop) music and the insipid stuff that is being played on major radio today, but good-natured Eddy only laughed and tactfully replied, "It is quite different now, isn't it?"  We had a most pleasant conversation and he was especially gracious and expressed his gratitude to his Florida fans, "I want to thank you and all your Florida readers very, very much for your support."  Such a humble, dear man!
Following is the letter that Zeke Thomas wrote to James A. Johnson which, in my opinion, pretty well sums up Eddy Arnold. Please write or FAX your support today to Mr. Johnson at the below address or FAX number. You can say anything you want, but make your appeal TODAY. Time is crucial.  Bill Comer and Frank Cunningham have worked very diligently to have Eddy selected for this deserving and long overdue honor. Let's not let them or Eddy down.
It would be a great humiliation to American society if Eddy is not granted this honor.
Also … please take a few minutes to visit Eddy's web site.  Bill has done a wonderful job with some interesting articles and great photos.  http://www.eddyarnold.com.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Shirley Sheppard

Dear Mr. Johnson:
Eddy Arnold has been an institution in music for over half a century. Deservedly, he has been awarded many honors throughout his long career, some in the country music field and some in popular music.
I like to think of Eddy Arnold's music as "Americana" without a label. During his prime years, which span from the 40's through the 90's, the fascination of his music appealed to a wide range of music lovers. His talent as a singer was extraordinary and his recordings simultaneously dominated country and popular radio airways for several decades. He started out in an era when a singer had to have genuine talent since there were no professional studio tools to correct off-key singers as there are today. He spontaneously delivered a song with such ease that it was almost like having a casual conversation with him. There has never been a singer quite like Eddy Arnold.
Eddy Arnold's persona as a clean cut individual has always been unquestionable. He treated his superiors, employees, peers, and fans with equal respect. He never demanded "the star treatment" and I sometimes got the impression that he was a little embarrassed about his phenomenal fame. What you saw is what you got, a man of high integrity who tried to live by the Golden Rule.
Eddy Arnold is a performer that America has admired for over five decades. If anyone is deserving of the high honor of having their name added to The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, it is Eddy Arnold. I hope that you will give serious consideration to his nomination.
Respectfully submitted,
Zeke Thomas

A great analogy to Eddy Arnold's Kennedy Center Honors? No not really. If it be the case Eddy should be made the first honorary President of the United States.
LONDON (AP) — Mick Jagger, the rock 'n' roll rebel and former scourge of the British establishment, said Saturday he was delighted with his latest accolade — a knighthood for his services to music.

Dear Frank:
Here is a copy of the official statement of The Smokey River Boys.  See if this meets with your approval.  I don't know if you realize it or not, but my daughter went to medical school in Nashville at Vanderbilt.  She worked as a hostess at The Stockyards Restaurant there in Nashville for years for Buddy Killen.  Mr. Arnold and his wife came in often and she had the priviledge of taking them to their table many, many times while she was a young college student.
Mr. & Mrs. Arnold never failed to tip her out during the hardest years of her working two jobs to get through medical school.  Our family will never forget the kindness and goodness that Mr. & Mrs. Arnold showed to our daughter, Cayce Michelle Metzgar.
Sincerely,
Robert Metzgar

Dear Major Dennis:
Robert Metzger has given me your email address.  I am the coordinator of an ad hoc committee to have Eddy Arnold selected for the Kennedy Center Honors this year.  Due to the problems with the mails at this time, I have enclosed the fax number for the Center,  202 416-8421.  You can fax your endorsement to them and they will forward it to Mr. James A. Johnson, Chairman.
In this case, the message is not as important as the messenger as the Center is well aware of Eddy's achievements.  Just a few lines of endorsement is fine.  Of course, any and all help is appreciated.  Even your Governor would be fine.  I have tried to get his father to send a note but he has not responded as yet.
Snail mail should go to:

Mr. James A. Johnson, Chairman
The John F. Kennedy for the Performing Arts
2700 F Street N W
Washington, DC 20566

I have been working through Senator Trent Lott's office as he is a trustee and will have a vote on the selection.  If you wish you could also fax him at 202-224-2262.  Just mention that I suggested you fax him.  I fax him every week updating him on our progress.  Senator Bill Frist, MD and Senator Fred Thompson are both leading the way for the selection.
Also, could you fax me a copy of any endorsement letters that may be sent.  We are putting together a commemorative book for Eddy and all letters are being included.  I expect to be in Nashville in mid to late July. My fax is 717-731-6147.
Any information you would need can be seen on Bill Comer's www.eddyarnold.com site.  Bill is a resident of Orlando and Bill Shoop is Kissimmee.  I will also email you the list of supporters who have contacted the Kennedy Center so far.
I have taken the liberty to send copies of this email to our other coordinators.
I want to thank you for all your help.  We Eddy fans are doing this as a labor of love as there are not many times in one's life one can honor such a gentle man.

I am a professional Pedal Steel Guitar musician.  I am 70 years old and have backed quite a few other big name musicians, but never one that could come any where close to Mr.  Arnold's true quility.  From low notes to high notes true and right on the button.  I first heard him on radio with Little Roy Wiggins (which I have met) and Skeeter Willis, was with him.  I have loved his singing ever since.  In my 50 years I have never heard anything but respect for him.  I just wish I would have had the honor to have met him and been able to tell him how much pleasure he has given me all this time.  I would be so honored to hear from him.  By the way I am still playing just like Mr.Arnold.  I love this business.  Would like to know what the most corrent CDs out, where to get them.

Hi Mavis ~  Just saw your posting on Deanna's guest book.    I just also wrote to Jo....just above your signing....she is from Scotland.    I was telling her my Mother was Born in Renfrewshire Scotland.    Now I'd like to tell you my Father was born in Preston, England.   But my real purpose is to ask you if you'd visit the two pages with Eddy Arnold singing.    Mainly the two songs "Bouquet Of Roses" ...and "Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain".   I hear Eddy is very popular in all of the U.K.
My main purpose in writing you is as follows.... "We" as a "Committee"  are trying to get this wonderfull singer and great person, nominated  for The Kennedy Arts Center Award.      My Scottish cousins have already sent in their endorsement and their names added to the long list of dignitaries.   We already have endorsements from T.V and Radio personalities, plus members of both Houses Of Representatives.   Plus numerous dignitaries of all walks of life.   Would you take a few moments to visit his site at       www.eddyarnold.com    Sign guest book if you'd like....we welcome you to do so.  Deanna has included a link on her site for Eddy, and has already sent in her endorsement.
We don't need a lengthily endorsement.....just a few minutes of your time.   We already,.. as I said, have my Cousins from Scotland....someone from Norway.   We'd love to include you from England....when we send all these names to the Kennedy nominating Committee.   Please click on the following email of our Chairman   fcunning@ptd.net  and Please send us your endorsement.   Thanking you in advance,

Dear Mr. Johnson:

Eddy Arnold has always been my favorite country singer and I have a large collection of his recordings over the years.
There has never been a singer like Eddy Arnold and there will never be another one like him.  He sings a song so perfectly that listening to one of his soothing ballads is always tantamount to taking a tranquilizer.  He never fails to have a calming effect.
One thing that always impressed me about Eddy Arnold's music was the fact that one could almost analyze the man from the way he sings a song. His kind mannerisms and characteristics are actually conveyed in his recordings as the classy Southern gentleman that he is.
I ask you to please give special consideration to Eddy Arnold's induction into the esteemed John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts.  If any entertainer deserves this honor, Eddy Arnold does.
Sincerely,

Dear Mr. Johnson,
It has been brought to my attention that Mr. Eddy Arnold of Tennessee has been nominated for an award from your organization.  The Tennessee General Assembly just recently recognized him for his achievements by senate joint resolution and we held a ceremony for this recognition on the senate floor.  As you are aware, Mr. Arnold has contributed greatly to both music industry and his community.  His many talents have been recognized in many ways and this award would enhance his achievements.  I feel that Eddy Arnold is very deserving of this award.  By this letter I would like to endorse this nomination.
The many fans of Eddy Arnold would be so appreciative of having this award bestowed upon him.  Thank you for your consideration and attention to this matter.
Yours truly,

There were many people, and since this was two months ago, I have no idea who has sent them in (I am positive they all did).
> This has been going for longer than that, I am sure, and I am not wanting to take credit for spreading this to so many people. It is our duty to be sure that the folks that contributed the most to the growth of country music get the recognizition that has seemingly alluded them in this day in time (with the music industry having turned the way it has). There is one other person that deserves much more recognition than he has ever recieved - that is Roy Acuff, the late King of Country Music. It seems his name has fallen from the face of the earth, and with the contributions that he made to getting music publishing started here in Nashville as well as having vocal country music heard around the world (he was the bridge from the string band era of the Opry to the vocal artist era), he is also deserving of recognition more than he is recieving.
>> Eddy Arnold is one solid gold person, a gentleman in every sense of the word, and a very soft spoken man. I love his music and his contribution to the country music field is great as well. I will sign the list through the
internet as well as sending what I have already sent.

Mr. James A. Johnson, Chairman
The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts
2700 "F" Street, N. W.
Washington, DC 20566

Dear Mr. Johnson:

Eddy Arnold is one of the few authentic living legends left.  His music has graced American audiences for over fifty years; he has appealed to a legion of mixed musical preferences; and his list of hit songs over the years is remarkable. His name is synonymous with country and popular music … and no one has contributed more to ether genre than Eddy.

As a person, he always appeared to be beyond reproach. I don't ever recall hearing or reading of any chemical dependence or any other scandal involving Eddy Arnold.  He was a family man and has the same wife today that he started out with over sixty years ago.

It would be a great disappointment to many music fans all over the world if Eddy Arnold is passed in having his name added to the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts.

I earnestly urge you to seriously consider his induction.

Dear Sir -
I am using this e-mail form as time is of the essence I believe. I wish to add my request to others who agree that Eddy Arnold represented America in true "Americana" manner throughout his performing career, for nearly 50 years.
He is well deserving of being honored by Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
His career spanned Country and Pop music genre.
He was always the true Gentleman in any field. His smooth delivery, and strong , warm voice was as familiar as Family to a complete generation.
His strength of character, and personal behaviour identified him as a valid role model.
Performers like Eddy Arnold, who offer their art, and conduct themselves with humble, moral dignity, serve their country as representive ambassadors via the Arts.
Please give serious consideration to his nomination.

I have been a long-time fan of Eddy Arnold. No matter where I was, even in lonely times, the sound of Eddy's voice reached me like an Upper Level family ! I love Eddy's style, and warmth of delivery, and I loved the type of songs he selected to record ! You have given a whole generation a touch of human companionship with your music. I too have contacted Kennedy Center For The Performing Arts explaining why I think you are very much deserving of being honored by them.
Most Sincerely,
Betty

Received a very pleasant e-mail from Don Stewart another fan of Eddy's and decided to make a return trip to see what's new.
I listened to Eddy on a wind up Victrola when I was around 7 years. old. His clear, clean sound, and his relaxed truly musical delivery made every one I knew try to sing like that. I believe he had a personal standard that held his lyric choices to wholesome fun and positive outlook. Even the sad story songs, "Angel with a dirty face" for example, left you with a feeling of kinship to all humanity on an emotional level. He made an impact in my life beyond anything I could write on this page. Thank God I lived in this World in Eddy's time.
I enjoy this site very much. I hope you attract some of the younger country fans. Eddy opened the way for the Garth's, Boone's and... Oh! you know what I mean.
