I've enjoyed Eddy Arnold since around 1959 when my parents bought
an LP. My favourites on it were "The Mills of the Gods" & "Lovin' Up
a Storm." Delighted to hear that Eddy is still doing well. Great Web-site
and greetings from the UK during these uncertain times.

As a 17 year old Eddy Arnold fan, I feel almost insulted that CMT
thinks that my generation only wants Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney. Eddy
Arnold should have at the very least been in the top 10. Also as an Arizonan,
i'm upset that they didn't put Marty Robbins on the list or Jim Reeves
for that matter. Eddy deserved to have a better position. Instead of making
the world go away, we ought to make CMT go away.

CMT blew it again. They left Jim Reeves, Ray Price, Marty Robbins
and several other Hall of Fame members from CMTs top 40 male country artists.
The Eagles were selected and to me they are not country.
Johnny Cash was first and Hank Williams Sr. second but to have some
"artists" place ahead of Eddy Arnold is ludicrous. Especially those who
have had 1 or 2 hits in their careers.
It was so bad that the "Hollywood" actress emcee said that "Eddy
Arnold's 25 year career......"
CMT makes a joke out of country music. No wonder there are only
3 country artists in the Kennedy Center.
Country fans are bombarding CMT's web site with complaints.

According to the CMT top 40 country men, Eddy Arnold placed 22.
There were singers who have been around 10 years and are probably going
to beat him out.
Johnny Cash did say "I love that man"
Now on to the Kennedy Center.

Dear Bill,
What a wonderful lot of pleasure you have given me with this website.
When I was a young boy growing up in country Australia I heard Eddy Arnold
singing "Heart Strings". Over the years I have searched for the words to
this song, but had despaired as I have never been able to find any recording,
old or new.My friends have started to believe that no such song existed,
so imagine my excitement to find it in your discography. Would it be possible
for you to send me the lyrics. I would be so grateful.

You know friends, it is such a tragidy about what is going on in
Iraq and I wonder what Mr. Arnold thinks about all this. Last Night I played
"Where Have All The Flowers Gone" from his "Folk Song Book" album and I
had tears in my eyes. That song means a lot and I think it is very appropriate
because of what is going on. I do hope this war will stop soon, words can't
express how bad I feel for these poor innocent people who are losing their
lives. It would be so nice if Eddy would do another album with patriotic
songs or another version of "A Part Of America Died".
God bless you all and I am really hoping and praying that Bear Family
will do another box set of Eddy's 50's work.

In regards to Bill Shoop's comments of 18 March I coulden't agree
more than if I had wrote it myself. The new generation really don't know
what they have missed and turn a deaf ear to what already exists such as
the great music that Eddy Arnold still has out there. As for this new crop
of singers all they do is talk about the legands such as Eddy but when
I listen to them they just leave me cold. Their music will never compare.
Best wishes to Bill and all those like him who keep Eddy Arnold's work
alive by spending hours as I do listening to a real singer with a whole
lot of class. Bob Daisey

I posted the following question on CMT and following is one of many
answers from fans who responded:
"Subject : RE: How can anyone not include Eddy Arnold in the top
40 country artists
Eddy Arnold was the first country artist on network tv 1949 the Milton
Berle Show, the first country artist to host network tv specials from the
country field, the first bonafide country crossover act.It was Eddy who
bridged the gap between country and pop.
He was the first country artist to intro the Nashville Sound at
Carnegie Hall.May 1966.The critics loved him.
Largely due to his career country radio grew from a paltry 6o stations
in the early 60s to near 1500 by the decades end.
Eddy Arnold took country music to the masses.Without his career
I doubt country would be where its at today.Lets we forget this huge talent!!!
Let the facts tell the story and not opinions!!"

Just reviewed CMT web site and the fans suggestions for the top
40. Eddy arnold was mentioned on 3 fans list out of about 25.
CMT would be wise to make Eddy number one. His selection would not
have any repercussions from country fans.
The foregoing suggestion is based on the "heat" some of the posting
fans showed about who should be number one. Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw and
some of the newer artists were suggested.
Eddy could save CMT's hide

I guess the answer is this: Eddy Arnold is not generating
revenue and in our pop culture its a what have you done for me lately attitude.
This however isn't the only reason, mostly ignorance on the part of the
critic or writer. The younger ones have no idea of history beyond
10 years back. Also whatever they read they believe whether its correct
or bogus. They don't take the time to call places like the Country
Music Hall Of Fame to talk with historians that could assist them.
But moreover I believe its a matter of trying to recreate history and that's
sad. The important thing is not that I like Eddy but what do the
stats say. Billboard magazine and specifically noted musicologist
Joel Whitburn in his book "The Country Singles 1944 to 1994 Eddy is the
no.1 country singles artist of all time period. That hasn't changed one
bit since the book was published. It was based on chart success period.
I want to know what is the agenda of these writers? And who
gives them the power to change facts? This is a sad commentary on
them and the company's behind them. We need to know what we are fed
is accurate.
In regard to my first sentence about "What have you done for me
lately " It cant hold water due to the other older artists listed.
The writers seem to hate Eddy, his incredible achievements and the fact
that he did it all with class.Without a drug habit or being a boozer!!!
In addition we need to find out who these writers are. If
they are going to print the facts let them tell us what criteria they use.
They shouldn't hide behind the network but list there credentials and names.
Otherwise its a worthless list used only to hype younger artist or to allow
people to play god!!!

Dear Eddy Arnold Friends,
There is an article in the March issue of the Dish Network Satellite
Guide telling of the upcoming CMT show, 40 Greatest Men of Country Music,
that will air on March 28. Dish made their own choices of who they consider
the 10 top artists. Hank Williams was number one and Garth Brooks number
10 Eddy wasn't even on their list.Would you believe Buck Owens was number
two ??? What a joke. I hope CMT judges are more knowledgeable as to the
talents of the Country Men than Dish Network. It really makes me angry
to see Eddy passed over for singers that are not nearly as qualified as
he. I wish someone would tell me why!!
God Bless Eddy, he's number 1 in our book!

Still blows my mind that the Kennedy Center Honors won't honor the
"Cal Ripkin of American music" Eddy Arnold. Everything the Kennedy Center
Honors is supposed to stand for is what Eddy has done. The best in his
chosen field of artistic endeavor!!!! They need to tell us why not the
best period? Otherwise they have lost the integrity of the honors!!!
Bill: I believe that Mike Freda answers
your question. Bill Comer
Mike Freda - July 31, 2002
Comments:
"Like the rest of the music world that has
taste, I am saddened that Eddy Arnold has once again been overlooked by
the Kennedy Center.
In a way I am glad because I really do not
think that Eddy belongs with those who are awarded this "honor." No, Eddy
is a decent, honest, upright and moral family man. There are no scandals
associated with him, no criminal record for him to be proud of, no all
night drinking binges or drug abuse in his past. He is even an American
citizen. How could he stand a chance with all these faults against him.
No, Eddy Arnold would add something all of
those chosen for the honor and those who chose them put together lack:
dignity.
There is no need to feel sorry for ourselves.
We know and appreciate Eddy! All the others have to search in vain for
the rest of their lives for what we already have."

A honky tonk singer popular in the late '40s, Cowboy Copas made
something of a comeback in the early '60s before he died in the air crash
that also killed Patsy Cline and Hawkshaw Hawkins. Born Lloyd Estel Copas
on July 15, 1913, he dropped out of school at the age of 14, and began
playing fiddle in several string bands around his Ohio home. On a dare,
Copas traveled to Cincinnatti to enter a contest and wound up performing
on radio shows for Cincinnatti's WLW and later WKRC. By 1940, Copas moved
to WNOX-Knoxville with a band called the Gold Star Rangers.
Three years later, Cowboy Copas got his big break: he was tapped
to replace Eddy Arnold as the vocalist for Pee Wee King's Golden West Cowboys
on WSM-Nashville and the Grand Ole Opry. He signed with King Records in
1946, and his debut single "Filipino Baby" hit number four on the country
charts that August. Two years later, Copas was back in the Top Ten with
"Signed Sealed and Delivered" (number two), "Tennessee Waltz" (number three)
and "Tennessee Moon" (number seven). He also continued to perform with
Pee Wee King on the Opry, recording a hit version of "Tennesse Waltz."
After the Top 20 singles "Breeze" and "I'm Waltzing with Tears in
My Eyes," Copas hit the Top Ten again in early 1949. "Candy Kisses" peaked
at number five, "Hangman's Boogie" reached number 14, and "The Strange
Little Girl" hit number five. His next single, 1952's "'Tis Sweet to Be
Remembered," hit number eight, but it was his last chart entry for more
than eight years. His King contract expired in 1955, and a brief time with
the Dot label also failed.
During the late '50s, Copas bided his time on the Opry and finally
signed to Starday in 1960. His first single for the label, "Alabam," became
the biggest of his career when it captured country's pole position for
three months during the last half of 1960. "Flat Top" hit the Top Ten in
April 1961, and a remake of his early hit "Signed Sealed and Delivered"
also reached the Top Ten in September. A year and a half later, Copas was
returning to Nashville from a benefit show in Kansas City, when his private
plane went down, killing him, Patsy Cline, Hawkshaw Hawkins and Copas'
son-in-law, pilot Randy Hughes. Cowboy Copas' last single, "Goodbye Kisses,"
hit the Top 15 one month after his death. — John Bush

Museum unveils new medallion for Eddy Arnold
Singer Eddy Arnold showed the emotion of the day as he donates personal
memorabilia to the Hall of Fame, and is honored in return.
When Eddy Arnold is asked how long he's been in the Country Music
Hall of Fame, he sometimes jokes, ''long enough that they ought to induct
me again.''
Yesterday came as close as possible, when Arnold, the most commercially
successful country singer of all time, was presented with a new Hall medallion
— 37 years after his 1966 induction.
George Walker IV / Staff
One of Eddy Arnold’s guitars is displayed with the plaque showing
his membership in the Country Music Hall of Fame.
The occasion was a celebration of Arnold's donation of personal
effects and memorabilia, the largest ever received by the museum dedicated
to a single performer. Among the collection: more than 2,000 photos, 5,000
radio recordings, tuxedos, guitars, and Arnold's wood Entertainer of the
Year Award from 1967, the first given by the Country Music Association.
The ceremony featured remarks by fellow country-pop icon Brenda
Lee, Nashville Mayor Bill Purcell and hall Director Kyle Young and performances
of Arnold standards by Jim Lauderdale, Suzy Bogguss, Bobby Bare and ''Cowboy''
Jack Clement.
Arnold urged other artists to donate their prized possessions to
the Hall.
''I know (the collection) will be in good hands.''

Eddy Arnold moved hillbilly music to the city, creating a sleek
sound that relied on his smooth voice and occasionally lush orchestrations.
In the process, he became the most popular country performer of the century,
spending more weeks at the top of the charts than any other artist. Arnold
not only had 28 number one singles, he has more charting singles than any
other artist. More than any other country performer of the post-war era,
he was responsible for bringing the music to the masses, to people that
wouldn't normally listen to country music. Arnold was initially influenced

records didn't dominate the charts like they did during the '40s and '50s,
he continued to fill concert halls and reissues of his older recordings
sold well.
Raised on a farm in Tennessee, Arnold was given a guitar at the
age of 10 by his mother. His father, who had played fiddle and bass, died
the following year. Arnold left school so he could help out on the farm.
However, he began playing dances whenever he had a chance. Several years
later, he made his first radio appearance on a station in Jackson. Arnold
then moved to St. Louis, where he played in night clubs with fiddler Speedy
McNatt. In St. Louis, Arnold landed a regular spot on WMPS Memphis, spending
six years at the radio station. Through the show, the singer earned a dedicated
following of fans.
During World War II, Eddy Arnold became part of the R.J. Reynolds'
Camel
Caravan, which featured Redd Stewart, Pee Wee King's Golden West
Cowboys, Minnie Pearl, and San Antonio Rose. The troupe performed for US
troops throughout America, as well some selected dates in Panama. After
the Camel Caravan, Arnold became the featured singer in the Golden West
Cowboys while they performed on the Grand Ole Opry. At first, he appeared
under the name "The Tennessee Plowboy," a nickname that followed him throughout
his career.
Arnold recorded his first single, "Mommy Please Stay Home With Me,"
in 1944 for RCA Victor. At RCA, the singer received the guidance of the
label's A&R head, Steve Sholes, which proved to be invaluable help
for his career.
Eddy Arnold pursued a solo career in 1945, the same year he got
married to Sally Gayhart. "Each Minute Seems a Million Years," released
on RCA's Bluebird division that same year, became his first charting record,
peaking in the Top Five. Arnold's career really took off the following
year, when "That's How Much I Love You" peaked in the Top Three, staying
there for 16 weeks and selling over 650,000 copies; its flip-side, "Chained
to a Memory," also climbed into the Top Three. Arnold followed the single's
success with two number one hits in 1947, "What Is Life Without Love" and
"It's A Sin." However, that didn't compare to the success of his next record,
"I'll Hold You In My Heart (Till I Can Hold You In My Arms)." The single
spent 46 weeks on the charts, with 21 of those weeks spent at the top;
it also crossed over to the pop charts, reaching the Top 30. In the process,
it became the number one single of the decade.
"I'll Hold You In My Heart" confirmed that Arnold had become a country
superstar, as did the performance of his 1948 singles. All of his nine
singles went into the top five, and five of them went to number one, including
"Anytime," "What a Fool I Was," "Texarkana Baby," "Just a Little Lovin'
(Will Go a Long, Long Way)," "My Daddy Is Only a Picture," and "Bouquet
of Roses," which stayed at the top for 19 weeks. In total, Arnold racked
up over 40 weeks on top of the charts during 1948, becoming the number
one country star in America. He headlined all the radio shows and concerts
he appeared on, and he was in demand throughout the nation. By the end
of the year, Colonel Tom Parker had become his manager; Parker would later
become Elvis Presley's manager. Throughout 1949, he continued to dominate
the charts, releasing a succession of Top 10 singles, including the number
one "Don't Rob Another Man's Castle," "One Kiss Too Many," "I'm Throwing
Rice (At the Girl I Love)," and "Take Me In Your Arms and Hold Me."
Eddy Arnold became a familiar face not only to country fans, but
to the general public in the early '50s. He toured all of the US, as well
as several foreign countries. All of the major television shows of the
era, including The Perry Como Show and Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts,
featured the singer. Indeed, he became so popular that he was the first
country star to have his own television show, Eddy Arnold Time. The show
originally aired on NBC, but it later moved to ABC. Through all of this,
his string of Top 10 hits remained unbroken, even though he didn't have
another crossover pop hit until 1954. Nevertheless, the sheer amount of
country hits was overwhelming: in 1950 he had seven, 13 in 1951 (including
the number ones "There's Been a Change in Me," "Kentucky Waltz," "I Wanna
Play House With You," "Easy on the Eyes," and "A Full Time Job."). The
hits, including "Eddy's Song" (composed of the titles of previous hits),
"How's the World Treating You?," "I Really Don't Want to Know," "My Everything,"
"The Cattle Call," "That Do Make It Nice," "Just Call Me Lonesome," and
"The Richest Man (In the World)," continued to come in force until 1956.
Between 1956 and 1964, Arnold continued to chart, but he wasn't
reaching the Top 10 at the same frequency of the previous decade. During
this time, his style was beginning to change, as he was shedding his rootsy
style for a slicker, polished sound that was more appropriate for urban
settings than rural territories. Arnold became a crooner, complete with
subdued instrumental backings, highlighted by gentle steel guitars and
the occasional orchestra. The change in musical direction was a major commercial
success, sparking a new era of chart dominance that began in 1965 with
"What's He Doing In My World." Not only did he return to the top of the
country charts, he once again crossed over to the pop charts. Arnold's
second streak of major hits ran until 1969. During this time, he earned
several number one and Top 10 singles, all of which were pop hits as well,
including "Make the World Go Away," "I Want To Go With You," "The Last
Word in Lonesome," "Somebody Like Me," "Lonely Again," "Turn the World
Around," "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye," "They Don't Make Love Like They
Used To," and "Please Don't Go."
In the early '70s, Arnold continued to appear on the country charts,
although his pop hits dried up. The singer signed with MGM in 1972, ending
27 straight years at RCA. Arnold spent only four years at MGM, landing
only one major hit, 1974's "I Wish That I Had Loved You Better." Returning
to RCA in 1976, he closed out the decade with two hits — "Cowboy" (1976)
and "If Everyone Had Someone Like You" (1978). Arnold managed to put two
songs into the Top 10 in 1980 ("Let's Get It While the Gettin's Good,"
"That's What I Get for Loving You"), making him one of the few artists
that charted in five different decades. He continued to record in the '90s,
although he has yet to chart a hit single. Nevertheless, his concert and
television appearances remained popular.
Beginning in the '60s, Eddy Arnold was bestowed with a numerous
amount of awards. In 1966, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall
of Fame. The following year, he was the first "Entertainer of the Year"
named by the CMA. The ACM gave him the "Pioneer Award' in 1984; three years
later, the Songwriters Guild gave him "The President's Award." Perhaps
the truest gauge of his success is his record sales. Over the course of
his career, he has sold over 85 million records, making him one of the
most successful artists of the century. — Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Eddy & Sally Arnold made a large donation of Eddy Arnold career
artefacts recently to the Country Music Hall Of Fame.
The Hall of Fame states it is the largest ever donation to the museum
by any artist.
A special tribute was paid in his honor this morning and the event
was broadcast live on WSM 650 AM Radio.
The event was hosted by Hall Of Fame Director Kyle Young and featured
such stars as Bobby Bare...Brenda Lee and Cowboy Jack Clement to name just
a few.
Arnold stated that it was his wish that more of the Country Music
Artists would make career collection donations to the facility.

So fantastic to see the Hall Of Fame honor Eddy and his incredible
career will send a copy of this to The Kennedy Center Honors. One
would have to be an idiot not to see the enormity of his impact on popular
music. I am no musicologist but even one unversed in music would
be blown away by Eddy's career accomplishments. Not to mention his
civic minded kindness. He certainly stands alone !!!
If the Kennedy Center was truly a place to honor great Americans
Eddy would have long ago been feted. It saddens me to see such a
tremendous talent overlooked.

EDDY'S WEB PAGE CELEBRATES IT'S 6TH ANNIVERSARY.
Web Masters Bill Comer and his son Bruce, started this GREAT Web
Site In Nov. 1997. Way back then, they waited until they thought
they had enough data to start this site. This site was to become a Labor
of Love, for Bill and his son, Bruce. Then on March 3rd, 1998, this Web
site debuted. But it only had a counter...and no guest book page. I remember
I looked at it about this time...and only 114 had viewed this start up
web site. Exactly one week later on March 10, 1998 I looked at it again,
and his son Bruce who is in the Marines signed this "New" guest book to
Officially open it. His Marine Buddy....also signed it, but just for fun.
When I saw the guest book I signed it on this date, and according to Bill
Comer...became the very first Eddy Arnold Fan to sign his guest book..
I consider this a Great honor. Bill and I have over the years, become GREAT
friends. This Web Site has come a long way since it's inception. You Eddy
Arnold Fan's and your friends have made it what it is today. Bill and Bruce
appreciate this from the bottom of their hearts. As I view this site, as
I write this..... 166,368 fans have viewed this site. It it done so professionally...that
if you do a "search" for an Eddy Arnold site on Yahoo. It will direct you
to www.eddyarnold.com where it states "This is the most comprehensive web
site on Eddy Arnold". But this site is not intended to honor Bill and his
son, Bruce....but the legionary "Ambassador Of Country Music"...Mr Dr.
Richard "Eddy" Arnold. Eddy Arnold will be celebrating his 85th Birthday
May 15, 2003. Won't all you fans send him a card for his Birthday...but
also to Congratulate him on being Honored by the Country Music Hall Of
Fame and Museum. Bill Comer and his son Bruce, want to thank Eddy's Wife
Sally for sharing this great man with us for more than 50 years. God bless
you Bill and Bruce....and also Eddy Arnold and his Wife Sally, and his
Family. Don Stewart.
P.S. Please send A Birthday and/or congratulations card to the following

"A TRIBUTE TO THE UNITED STATES"
This, from a Canadian newspaper, is worth sharing.
AMERICA : THE GOOD NEIGHBOR.
Widespread but only partial news coverage was given recently to a
remarkable editorial broadcast from Toronto by Gordon Sinclair, a Canadian
television Commentator. What follows is the full text of his trenchant
remarks as printed in the Congressional Record:
"This Canadian thinks it's time to speak up for the Americans as
the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all the
earth. Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were lifted
out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars
and forgave other billions in debts.
None of these countries is today paying even the interest on it's
remaining debts to the United States. When France was in danger of collapsing
in 1956, it was the Americans who propped it up, and their reward was to
be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it.
When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the United States that
hurries in to help. This spring 59 American communities were flattened
by tornadoes. Nobody helped. The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped
billions of dollars into discouraged countries. Now newspapers in those
countries are writing about the decadent warmongering Americans.
I'd Like to see just one of those countries that is gloating over
the erosion of the United States dollar build it's own airplane. Does any
other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet,
the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas
DC10?
If so, why don't they fly them? Why do all the International lines
except Russia fly American Planes? Why does no other land on earth even
consider putting a man or woman on the moon? You talk about Japanese technocracy,
and you get radios. Your talk about Germany technocracy, and you get automobiles.
You talk about American technocracy, you find men on the moon -not once,
but several times - and home safely again.
You talk about scandals, and Americans put theirs right in the store
windows for everybody to look at. Even their draft dodgers are not pursued
and hounded. They are here on our streets, and most of them, unless they
are breaking Canadian laws, are getting American dollars from ma and pa
at home to spend here.
When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down
through age, it was Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad
and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them and old caboose.
Both are still broke.
I can name 5000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other
people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else raced
to the Americans in trouble? I don't think there was outside help even
during the San Francisco earthquake.
Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I'm one Canadian who is damned
tired of hearing them get kicked around. They will come out of this thing
with their flag held high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb
their nose at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles.
I hope Canada is not one of those."
Stand proud America! Wear it proudly!!
[Gorton Sinclair died in 1989. He wrote
this article during the Vietnam war in the 1970's]
I'd like to add my little note....this was
written over 20 years ago. Today we are facing the same situation...no
one is coming to our aid with this Iraq and North Korean problem of today.
We are being called warmongers. And Countries like France and Germany are
at the top of this list who are turning their backs on us. Had we lost
WW2 we'd be speaking German or Japanese...if we were alive at all. I wonder
what Gordon Sinclair would think about even Canada, not coming to our aid
in 2003. Be proud to be an American. GOD BLESS AMERICA......Don
Stewart.

before you became famous. Theodore and Cletus Cox. They tell of the times
you stayed at their modest home in Herculaneum, MO. Cletus is celebrating
his 80th birthday on March 21. We are planning a big celebration and it
would please him to hear from you as part of his past memories. If possible,
please send a note to him in care of me. Mary Cook 25 Treebrook Dr. Crystal

Hello Eddy, your were my favorite singer when I began my radio show
at WDXI in Jackson TN in 1948 with "Uncle
Tom Williams as the announcer. I have recorded all those songs
I sung back then with "Little" Roy Wiggins
before he passed away. I still have about 20 unreleased tracks
with "Little" Roy Wiggins on steel of which are
all your early classics. Eddy you are still my favorite vocalist
and that's remained so through the years.

I saw the same information and was taken by the lack of credit for
Mr. Arnold.
I also noticed one of the stars of today complaining about the Grammys
not giving enough recognition to country music. He also complained about
the Grammy people choosing winners while overlooking the fans choices.
All the award shows including the Kennedy Center frowns upon the
peoples' choices and the expression of "let them eat cake" is prevalent
today as it was 300 years ago.

Yes Bill, we unfortunately live in an instant gratification world
with trash as its main presentation. It is around us constantly even to
the extent of being presented to us between halves of a football game.
Even a commercial coming during the Superbowl game will exalt a
person with questionable morality promoting a service that reflects the
disingenuousness of the sponsor and participant.
Stange, but this person has been honored by the Kennedy Center.
Maybe it is for the best that Mr. Arnold not be reduced to the trash
level within the beltway.
Bill, I have lost your email address. Can you send it to me?

This is a follow-up to Bill Comer's comments to Don Stewart. Without
a doubt Eddy Arnold is the most underrated performing artist of all time!!!
Its sad that in our society today all the acts are hyped beyond belief.
Most of them either look great in tight jeans or a skirt that they should
be arrested for wearing. Jerry Purcell in a conversation with me
spoke of how he had to laugh at the trades at singers that were supposed
to be the next best thing to come down the pike.
Eddy Arnold is a man who the lord saw fit to bless. First
with a voice that was sent to touch our lives while we lived here below.
On our pilgrimage to the sky. Secondly the lord gave him a laughter
that in and of itself could brighten up the saddest of persons. Third
he gave Eddy the ability to live a life marked by modesty. This in
an age of much "Bragging" about how big they were. Eddy always has
said how he has been blessed. Small wonder the lord allowed him to
reach the heights that he attained.
I like many others am highly disappointed that all the major music
award shows have failed to honor him. Events like the American Music
Awards and the Grammys have instead become not really about honoring the
best but only to promote the lowest of the low. In that sense perhaps
its better he not be awarded. Class in and of itself speaks for itself
and stands alone.
Thank god those of us that won't allow history to be changed realize
that Eddy Arnold's stats tell the story loud and clear. Today's music
critics only know what happened today. No matter whether they love
him or not Billboard magazine tells the whole truth and nothing but the
truth. SO BE It!!! The number one country singles artist of
all time.
Bill: Nice to hear from you.

In TwangTown USA. It is listed that Col. Tom Parker...aka.Andreas
Van Kujik died on this day in 1997. He was born on June 28, 1909 in Breda,
Holland. It lists that he was Elvis's manager. No mention of Eddy Arnold...who
he managed long before any one ever heard of Elvis. The same thing happened
when Chet Akins died....they mentioned he produced for Roy Orbison also
the Everly Brothers on the NEWS...but no mention of Eddy Arnold. In Michael
Streissguth's book "Eddy Arnold Pioneer Of The Nashville Sound"....it lists
Chet produced 86 sessions...each session containing about 6 songs....thats
516. If any one out there knows of anyone Chet produced more
for....I'd like to know his name. Don Stewart
Don: Eddy has never received the recognition
he has earned many times over. You just have to feel sorry for people
who grew up and were not exposed to this kind, gentle man. I've always
said he's the greatest singer and performer in the world because I believe
it with all my heart. I believe, at times, Eddy has been annoyed
by my saying that to him, so often, but I will never stop saying it.

I just went out and bought THE BEST OF EDDY ARNOLD CD I had almost
forgotten how beautiful his voice and music is. I am 49 years old and remember
first hearing that wonderful voice on wjjd radio in chicago. I think
one of the main reasons EDDY does not receive the recognition he deserves
is due to the fact that most country radio stations do not play the older
classic country MUSIC/ARTISTS so a great many younger people are not familiar
with EDDY and his great music. The reason I went out and bought EDDY'S
CD WAS because I just heard EDDY sing MAKE THE WORLD GO AWAY, on 96.3 REAL
COUNTRY here in Phoenix they play new and classic country on that station.
So hearing EDDY reminded me how much I loved hearing EDDY and his kind
of music and I really believe if more people were introduced or reminded
of EDDY'S music he would receive the place he so richly deserves as a true
living legend of country music. THANK YOU

Hello Dr. Eddy Arnold fans!! Perhaps one who reads this can help
me...I am looking for a place to purchase some of Dr. Arnold's early recordings.
They are for myself and my dad. He is trying to find the song: "Mommy,
Mommy Please Stay Home". He is not sure if that is what it is called, but
it is about a little girl who is trying to keep her mother from leaving..but
she does anyway and the little girl dies. I thought about purchasing the
1998 release "The Tenn. Plowboy and his Guitar". Does anyone know of this?
It is a five disc set. Where can I find the complete list of songs for
this album? Thanks so much for your attention, and God Bless. Michael.

Subject: EDDY ARNOLD WEB SITE !!!
Hi Eddy Arnold Fans ~ Every day people are discovering
Bill Comer's fantastic web site on EDDY ARNOLD. There
are a lot of people that stumble on it by accident, and are amazed by the
wealth of information about this great man.
Eddy is 84 years old now...and retired from performing on May 16,1999
in Las vegas. Many younger folks don't even know who he is.
I think it would give them a lesson in Country Music...as to what he was,
and has come to be. He has received numerous awards....including
Honorary Doctorate honors....and is referred to as Dr. Eddy Richard Arnold
now.
The young folks who don't know who he is....will be amazed at the
fact he recorded 1,170 songs in his great career. His
first 71 songs charted and 28 of these reaching number 1.
"His Bouquet Of Roses" topped the charts longer than any other country
song. Plus he had 6 songs in the top ten at one time
in the 1950's. Over the years he has charted on 147 songs.
He is the only singer, Country or pop {dead of alive} to have charted in
7 straight decades. Not even the late, great Bing Crosby, or
Frank Sinatra.....or the King [Elvis]....can claim this outstanding feat.
Not only was Eddy a great singer.....{his voice has diminished with age}
but a great human being. Some one once said, "A handshake from
Eddy...is better than a written contract"
That is saying a lot about the man, who today is referred to as,
THE AMBASSADOR Of COUNTRY MUSIC. Ralph Emery of TNN, and the
"Nashville Now" show has a book out now. It is titled
50 Years Down A Country Road. This book is about his
more than 50 years with all Country stars. He dedicated
this book to Eddy Arnold....calling him Country Music's first Superstar.
You can read all this and volumes more at his great site www.eddyarnold.com
put out by Webmaster Bill Comer and his son Bruce. I'd
like to wish all Eddy Arnold fans a Happy New Year.
Don Stewart
Don: Many thanks for your endorsement
and support of this website. Happy New Year to you and all of Eddy
Arnold's fans. Bill Comer
