fan of Eddy (my siblings and I are closet fans...we heard him a lot while
growing up!). Since Dad's collection is on LP and cassette, I am trying
to build a CD collection for him. One of his favorites...I Love How You
Love Me...is only available (according to your great discography) on the
Reader's Digest set "Welcome to My World". I shall send a request to post

As a lifelong Country Music fan I've always enjoyed Eddy Arnold
music. What is there not to like about his music and THE MAN HIMSELF? While
reading the book "Welcome To My World" I almost fell out of my chair when
I read Eddy's reply to a question. He was asked to what can he attribute
the popularity of country music, his response was something like, "Well,
when the war started millions of guys in every state in the union were
thrown together in barracks training camps and on the battlefronts. Kids
from New York's East Side mingled with guys from BROKEN BOW, OKLAHOMA.
Well folks, that is where I left my chair. If Eddy Arnold knows where BB
Okla. is, then I'll hold him in my heart forever, for he is a true Country
Gentleman.

in alphabetical order; so you will have to keep scrolling down until you
come to "Loving her was easier" and there are several LPs listed; price
ranging on condition of LP. Right now there is a near mint one for $12.00
and you can buy it straight out from the seller who has it listed and you
don't have to get in a bidding war. Gemm is a clearing house for a multitude

of the same title, c.1972. As with most of Eddy's albums, it is out of

is ignoring Eddy Arnold. He has contributed so much to country music than
any other artist and why they put Loretta Lynn in there is beyond me. Loretta's
okay but she's not one of my favorites. Eddy is the one who deserves it!

I hope all Eddy Arnold fans will agree with me....that these pages
are devoted to the love and devotion of Eddy and his music. Sure it is
O.K. to discuss your disappointment of reasons you think Eddy is being
kept out of the Kennedy Arts Center. However I don't feel it is a place
to air out what religion you are....or your political affiliations. Please
post that in the Church of your choice bulletin, or polling place, and
spare us from reading such remarks of this kind.
I have nothing against Mother Theresa......she was a wonderful person.

Hi Don, Your posting is correct and very good. We all know that
Eddy should have been honored by the Kennedy Center long before now. He
was the first country superstar and has led the way for all of the country
crossovers that are now charting in both country and pop fields. We were
all devastated that he did not get honored and unfortunately all of the
hard feelings are not going to change it. As Eddy's secretary Roberta said,
"Eddy is too good for that bunch anyway.".
Most people go to the web site to hear of Eddy and if they have
different political or religious views would be put off with all the controversial
personal views of web site regulars.
Eddy has always been intelligent enough to keep his personal views
to himself rather than to air them in public like many entertainers do.
Posters on his site should be wise to do as Eddy would do and keep their

I had the singular pleasure of getting to know Eddy during my years
at RCA in Nashville. He is a delightful human being and always treated
me with the utmost respect. I had him perform on the General Jackson paddlewheel
boat for a crowd of about 500 radio personalities (a tough and critical
crowd.) Also performing that evening was Alabama, Lonestar, Martina McBride,
Clint Black, Lorrie Morgan and many others. Eddy came out with his gut
string guitar, sat on a stool and blew the room away! Best act on the stage...

'National treasure' Loretta Lynn receives Kennedy Center Honor

WASHINGTON — Loretta Lynn walked in from a night as crisp and cold
as a frozen tuxedo, moved across plush red carpet and entered a building
filled with chandeliers and famous people, with warmth, applause and adoration.
Yesterday evening was a night of tribute to Lynn, a woman whom former
President Bush called ''a national treasure,'' who was being cheered for
receiving a Kennedy Center Honor, an award akin to British knighthood or
the French Legion of Honor.
The scene was nothing at all like the hillside cabin of Lynn's Kentucky
childhood, the place she wrote of in her autobiography in song — Coal Miner's
Daughter. Yet by her very presence, Lynn seemed to bring the Butcher Holler
house — the center of an upbringing that has been her burden and her muse
— with her. The home was there last night, as real as the coal miner's
daughter sitting in the president's box.
For her part, Lynn smiled and cried a few tears as a stream of esteemed
friends and admirers approached the gleaming white stage at the Kennedy
Center for the Performing Arts' Opera House to speak glowing words or to
sing her songs.
One of those people was Bush, the first president to so honor an
inductee, who said, ''What Norman Rockwell did with paint, Loretta still
does with her voice and guitar.''
Lynn — the fourth country artist to receive a Kennedy honor since
the award show's 1978 inception — was the first of five honorees at yesterday's
show, sharing the night with ''Godfather of Soul'' James Brown, actress
Carol Burnett, director Mike Nichols and violinist Itzhak Perlman.
Sissy Spacek — the actress who won an Academy Award for her portrayal
of Lynn in the movie Coal Miner's Daughter — was the first to speak about
Lynn.
''I loved being you,'' she said, directing her comments to the box
that held Lynn, President Bush and other honorees. ''I would have gone
on being you for the rest of my life, but everybody knows there's only
one Loretta Lynn.''
The actress introduced a video that depicted Lynn's rise from a
mountain childhood to a place among American music's superstars.
Then former President Bush spoke, joking that his lack of musical
talent precluded him from delivering ''a special rendition of Who Was That
Stranger?''
After that, it was on to the music. Reba McEntire was the first
to sing, knocking out a feisty version of You're Lookin' At Country.
Next, Garth Brooks stepped out of his retirement to join Trisha
Yearwood for a take on Lynn's duet with Conway Twitty, Louisiana Woman,
Mississippi Man.
Lyle Lovett offered a wry-but-right version of Lynn's Rated X, even
going so far as to repeat Lynn's spoken aside near song's end, ''Why, us
women don't have a chance.''
And then Patty Loveless, herself a cousin of Lynn and the daughter
of a miner, delivered Lynn's signature Coal Miner's Daughter, singing of
the Van Lear coal mine, of a mother who read the Bible by a coal oil light,
and of the sheer exhaustion that accompanies such an existence.
The song was a reminder of the humble beginning that has given way
to one of music's most remarkable and important careers, and of the way
that, as former President Bush said, ''her timeless body of work helps
us celebrate what this country and her people are all about.''

Sixty-two years ago today, December 07, 1941, the Japanese Empire
attacked Pearl Harbor killing thousands of people. My older brother, Tom
Comer, who is now deceased, was at Pearl Harbor on that dreadful day. Tom
was a crew member of the USS Zane, a destroyer minesweeper. He was not
injured and subsequently fought in every major sea battle in the Pacific
during War World II. Tom returned to Pearl Harbor on December 07,
1991, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the attack. REMEMBER PEARL
HARBOR! Tom died a few years ago of cancer. May
God Bless and protect all of our service men and women, wherever they may
be, as they are in constant danger during these difficult times.

Namaskar! Greetings!
And if I may also add Peace, Faith and yes most definitely Prayer!
You are not alone in thinking we live in a very troubled world sir,
wherever our homes may be. And I agree totally that prayer is the need
of the hour not only for Eddy, but for ourselves, our families and the
world at large. We must pray!
As for dignity and virtue sir, these are non saleable items in a
world where consumerism is king. A highly consumerist society be it anywhere
in the world has willing scapegoats that forsake morality for greed, sensationalism
and the thrill of the moment. Wonderful, upstanding people like Eddy are
considered boring. Unless you are streaking on a beach or waging unrest
on society who is going to notice you?! But we must have faith without
naivety that good will always triumph over evil. Does the USA fall prey
easily into this vortex of immorality? I cannot say. I leave her to be
her own judge and jury. For change when needed and if at all needed must
begin from within. I prefer to believe that good exists side by side with
the bad. You have your Abraham Lincolns, your Martin Luther Kings, your
JFKs, Mark Twains,the first moon mission,Eddy Arnold, Oprah Winfrey, jazz,
thanksgiving and pumpkin pie…all good things in my humble eyes.
It takes just one person to make a difference. Example: you with
your idea of bringing the power of prayer to bear hope for Eddy. You who
stand on the side of righteousness and have the courage to speak your mind
and champion the good things in life. I see good in the USA in Bill Comer…a
man with a good mission. He has created an oasis of good expression and
concentrated good will for Dr Arnold here through his website. Not all
of us walk the talk. But Bill Comer has. I see good in the dedication of
his close associates and friends who give of themselves to a goal higher
than themselves in Eddy.
You know sir, physics tells us than an object is red in colour because
it absorbs all other colours except red – which it reflects. Amazingly,
what it gives it retains. What it takes, it loses. So it is with life.
The more you give the more you get. Eddy has given so much good to the
world it is bound to come back to him in the form of the Award. If
it is in his Karma/Destiny he will surely receive it. So do not be troubled
sir, because you ALL have a powerful emotional motivation in Eddy you will
outperform your own standards and excel. Even as his chances at receiving
the Kennedy Honours grows dimmer his future grows ever brighter because
you are there with him - supporters the world over believing in him and
rooting for him through good times and bad.
So let us have your powerful prayers for Eddy. If Oprah can have
a book club, you too can organize a prayer club in your community/close
circle for Eddy. The good Oprah had the right idea so her mission to educate
through reading is successful. You are on the right track too with yours.
Thus, let us pray together that one day the selectors at the Kennedy Centre
will wake up and realize what is missing in their illustrious Centre. What
is the use of shining prestigious when your crowning jewel is missing from
it? Let us hope against hope perhaps that reason and not temptation prevails
among their elite.

You are doubly blessed because you have taken her name and are aware of
her good deeds. Mr. Bill Shoop hoped for a miracle. I give you one

Yes, God is good!
Unfortunately, the United States has become a secular, amoral to
immoral country where trash is the rule and dignity and virtue are stepped
on. In that sentence you can see my attempt at innuendo with the powers
that be at the Center as the trash and Eddy Arnold as the dignity and virtue.
An evil pervades the world and it is at its peek in the U S. There
are not too many Mother Theresa’s walking the streets of Washington DC.
And unfortunately, none of the Center’s “committee” people would be up
to her standards anyway.
I believe if we all started a prayer campaign we would have better
results than we had with our snail mail, emails, faxes and telephone calls
that numbered in the thousands. A Power greater than we is needed at this
time as the Kennedy Center, its supporters and its “boss” can only be influenced
by Him. This “boss” wields much power in the Center and is so upright,
he is being considered for ex-communication by the same Church he and I
belong to.
So we go back to my first paragraph. The trash will continue and
continue and Eddy Arnold’s chances get slimmer and slimmer...unless we
pray.

Response very much appreciated. Thank you for shedding light on
the very commendable concerted past efforts of yours and the backers including
the governor and the senators. Clearly every effort was made to aid Eddy
get the award by many.
I don’t think you need thousands though perhaps just a major celebrity
to champion Eddy at the Kennedy Centre, someone whose popularity/influence
is powerful enough to make waves and directly reach out to the Chairman
and to the President of the Centre? Someone whose recommendations they
will find hard to resist? The likes of Mr.Steven Spielberg, Babara Striesand,
Jennifer Lopez, Faith Hill, etc. It does not have to be them, these are
figures of stature/names I have offered you as an example of the people
you need to get through to the Centre’s decision making process. The Recommendee
should be as important/famous/popular as the Recommended or more. The bigger
his/her reputation in the arts the better the chances for Eddy,I feel.
That way the recommendations are not brushed aside, if at all any are.
Would roping in past honorees to recommend Eddy be a good idea to getting
closer to that elusive award? But on your part you need to make it crystal
and outstandingly clear that Dr.Eddy Arnold’s work as an artiste/musician
is par excellence. And that for the last 50 years his music has had an
major impact/influence on the American arts and cultural scene, especially
in country western music. That he has an international audience is expected.
You need to provide your major/primary backers with all the statistics
and presentation they will require. That, with their own understanding,
knowledge, acknowledgement, respect and liking for Dr.Arnold & his
brilliant career/achievesments should be able to do the necessary job to
ensure his nomination to the Kennedy Honours Award? The Senators’ and governor’s
help certainly should be accessed again. As also the recording studios/academies.
But what am I doing you must have already tried every guideline I have
come up with here in your campaign?
But alas, we have until before next December again. It is a very
challenging thought. But we are not losers, we just haven’t won yet. Let
us pray for the miracle in our minds and that our fondest wish for Eddy
comes true. But in the meantime hoping for another campaign would be asking
for too much? Alternative: all good things also come to those who stand
and wait? So fingers crossed for the next season of miracles to approach?
I understand your sadness and feel terribly helpless too myself. Hence
the shared thoughts and hopes for Eddy.
I would be happy to write to the Centre as you say I must but I
am an obscure fan in their eyes and my sentiments as well meaning as they
are would certainly be taken with a pinch of salt. You need someone who
understands the language of the arts and who is respected in his/her artistic
sphere and has the inside track on them to make a solid recommendation
for Eddy. Only that would work I feel.

Welcome to His World: Eddy Arnold Exhibit Opens
The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled its Eddy Arnold
exhibit Thursday night (June 5) to a select group of Music Row insiders.
The genial Arnold and his wife, Sally, were there for the opening, as were
such notables as Jimmy Dean, Phil Everly, Merle Kilgore, Country Music
Hall of Fame songwriter Cindy Walker and two former governors of Tennessee.
Walker, who co-wrote "You Don't Know Me" with Arnold, told the celebrants
a story about the star's mischievous streak. She said that Arnold was mowing
his lawn one day when a lady came by and mistook him for a handyman. "Oh,
hello there," said the woman. "I just moved to town, and I have a lawn
about this size. How much would you charge to mow it?" Arnold paused for
a moment, Walker recounted, and then replied, "Well, the lady here lets
me sleep with her."
"Most of the time, people tell stories on you that aren't true,"
said Arnold, when it came his time to speak. "That one is." Choking back
tears, he continued, "I want you to know that I've had a good life. I hate
to say it, but it's coming to the end. I'm now 85, and I stay home all
the time. I go to my office. I answer the mail -- I still get mail from
all over the world. … It's nice of all of you to come here and honor me.
… All of you are here to see my relics, all of the things I've collected
over 60 years. There's nothing great about it. It was just attached to
me."
Arnold's story about the difficulty of getting his first record
deal sounded amazingly contemporary. He said he auditioned for several
labels and all of them turned him down, including Columbia, the one he
aspired to most. It had a full roster to promote and, thus, no room for
a newcomer. Finally, a Chicago music publisher recommended the young singer
to Victor Records in New York. "It wasn't RCA Victor," Arnold emphasized.
'It was Victor." It would become RCA Victor later on, however, and Arnold
would stay with the label virtually for the rest of his career. Before
he could make his first record, he said, "The musicians went on strike
and stayed on strike for about a year and a half. I thought my life had
passed me by." Years later, after Arnold had established himself as a bestselling
recording artist, the head of Columbia Records invited him to lunch. "He
said, 'I did you a favor one time,'" Arnold recalled. "I asked him what
it was, and he said, 'I didn't sign you.'"
Following Arnold's remarks in the Hall of Fame rotunda, the crowd
moved to the exhibit area for a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The exhibit, "I'll
Hold You In My Heart: The Eddy Arnold Collection," is now open to the public.

I doesn't surprise me that the Arnolds just celebrated 62 years
of marriage. Listening to Eddy started early on with my 45's, then 78's,
then on to 33 1/3',tapes & CD's. So I know that "Love" isn't just a
word in one of his songs - it's a deep feeling that crosses over the airwaves
from his heart to others. I couldn't pick out a favorite song if I tried,
because there are just so many of them. My family feel the same way. I'm
sorry to hear about the non-recognition by the Kennedy Centre, but since
it sounds political, it probably isn't Real Gold. The Honest Stuff has
been coming to Eddy Arnold since the forties. There are many thousands
of us around the world who have been warmed by the sincerity; touched by
the simplicity; delighted by the hop-skip-and-jump from laughter to tears
as his songs flow. We don't listen to Eddy Arnold with our ears - we soak
him up with our insides. But we never thought to tell him. We just accepted
the gift that God gave us when he started the music flowing in Dr. Arnold.
I'm not sure if this is the right place to put the message that would go
to Sally & Eddy, in congratulating them on keeping their marriage vows
all these years. That's an accomplishment that not many people can be proud
of. Also,thank you to the people who have made it possible for us 'little
guys' to send our heartfelt love and best wishes to Eddy and his family.

As an aside, read the excerpt from a write-up of Hank Williams Sr.
If you read between the lines you might get Washington's elitist attitude
towards country music. Note that Eddy is not considered "traditional"
There will be 4 country music people in Kennedy and I think it shows
the look down the nose feelings and other things of the Center towards
country music.

In regard to Sandra Osborne's Heartfelt thoughts here goes.
I and so many others did everything but stand on our heads to get the Kennedy
Center folks to honor Eddy.Two years ago a campaign was mounted that we
all agreed, those involved, would do the trick.We had the support of the
most wide ranging group of people you could imagine.To give you an idea
of how diverse the backers were we had the governor of Tenn., both United
States Senators from that great state, The Country Music Association, the
Academy Of Country Music, plus thousands of letters from around the globe.
Whenever we thought someone might help the effort they were contacted.
The vast majority sent letters for us.
The problem with the Kennedy Center Honors is how secretive its
done. They claim to look at both the selections their group picks
as well as public interest. Several of us have called and we always
get the same response. They will never really tell us why not Eddy
Arnold. Logically as you say his world records speak volumes.
Sadly it seems to bypass those on the selection committee. Loretta
Lynns selection last year was not a bad choice per se but Eddy's career
achievements leave Lorettas in the dust. I might add I like Loretta.
Eddy's career heyday was in an era that for the most part you either had
talent or you were an industry joke.
I also thought what a superb show would've been with Eddy honored
alongside Paul McCartney or Paul Simon. Pop feted alongside country.
A balanced show.
Unless a miracle occurs I don't look for this situation to change.
That saddens me but should also sadden the entire country music industry.
We have allowed the best that it ever produced to not recieve its due.
A slight to both Eddy Arnold and the entire country music industry.
Really to the entire music industry as a whole.
In closing I wonder how Eddy feels about this oversight. I
know he's a contented man but must question why they don't like him.

Sir, I just read your posting and my thoughts on what you wrote
mirrors yours so closely that I felt I had to share them with you.
Its seems insane and inexplicable to me that the Kennedy Centre
is taking their own sweet time to honour Dr.Arnold, for honor him more
sooner than later they should. Why keep the best until the last?! If excellence
is the criterion then choose the best right off the bat I say. There are
few more outstanding and deserving than Eddy Arnold. His world beating
records have stood the test of time. His phenomenal career achievements
alone are beyond the range/reach of some of the most gifted musicians.
He is truly exemplary and a legend in his lifetime. A man America and the
world abroad recognizes as a monumental talent and personality in the world
of music. What more do they want or need?
Like you perhaps, the only reasoning mistakenly or not I have is
that the priorities for the selection seem confused. Politically correct
or waiting for a great musician to die or be in critical ill health before
you realize that he should be bestowed with the honor should not be the
mode of selection. So what are the current selection criteria then for
a candidate to be awarded this honor? How come Eddy is being ignored? He
certainly merits the award. I do not for a single moment detract from the
success and honor of all those who have already received this prestigious
award. I am sure they have fully deserved theirs. All I am asking is why
is it taking so long to get around to Dr.Arnold’s felicitation ceremony?
What facts and figures do you need to urge you to enshrine him as the next
recipient of your prestigious award? I am asking nay begging demystify
me as to what goes wrong when it comes to giving him a thumbs up for the
award. You have a soul look into it and you will see the impatient faces
of thousands of still very eager Eddy Arnold fans around the world waiting
for you to do the right thing…NOW! Not tomorrow or when its too late…but
at his earliest. The man has earned it. Why does he have to wait? Update
yourselves on his history & contribution and you would be able to come
to one consensus together…that Dr.Eddy Arnold is truly a worthy man in
every way for receiving the prestigious Kennedy Centre award. Surely you
will take into consideration also the thoughts and sentiments of thousands
of ardent Eddy fans that feel he has been neglected thus far by the non-receipt.
We have our facts right, please re read his file and do not be surprised
if you become an overnight admirer and champion of Eddy Arnold and his
music like yours truly and that of his countless most devoted lifelong
fans…. And he does have legions...this website is proof enough that Eddy
is not forgotten but much respected and admired profoundly for his contribution
to music and to the music industry the world over.He has brought happiness
to millions of his listeners.
That’s it Mr.Shoop…these are my thoughts and sentiments…a floodgate
of emotion and agreement to all you have said in your posting because I
am totally perplexed as you probably are as to why these good people keep
missing the boat all the time when it comes to choosing Eddy. How hard
can it be? He’s the best! Pick him!!
Here’s another thought Mr.Shoop if I may …I am not sure if I am
helping at all but its better than twiddling my thumbs and waiting anxiously
for the selectors to achieve enlightenment about Dr Arnold’s credibility
and deservedness for the award. I was thinking sir could Dr.Arnold’s sponsors
(assuming he has one in the USA) prepare a brand new study on his behalf
for presentation to the selectors so that they may take it into fresh consideration
and do him credit and justice the next time the award is due. If, for this
award, the first few presentations of his life achievements went unnoticed/ignored,
shouldn’t we try an approach from their perspective and current thought
for a candidate to be a winner? What qualifications are needed? What is
their own mood/climate? Perhaps I am reaching and certainly out of my league
here and I hope Mr.Bill Comer and all of his committee members; fans &
friends, will give this some fresh deep thinking and come up with a new
successful strategy to make the selectors at the Kennedy Center sit up
and take notice of Dr.Arnold’s right to the Kennedy Center Award. For he
does rightly deserve it everyone will agree as much as those who have already
been lucky recipients. I am not sure how one goes about presenting a candidature
or how you can finally swing it in his favor in a very honest proper fashion.
But best of luck to all of you, especially those who are working directly
and tirelessly for his cause. Fans far away like myself are ever grateful
for your courage and determination to see him honoured. I just wish I had
better concrete suggestions to offer.
But, if all else fails I will trust in the Lord He will choose His
own time and date to give Eddy this overdue reward/award. Of that I am
certain. It is just a matter of time Eddy gets the Kennedy Centre Award.
I am just frustrated and puzzled that its not coming sooner.
I thank you Sir, and all those who were reading this for their time
and patience while I expressed my anxieties/hopes for Eddy.

The Kennedy Center has missed the boat big time.Eddy Arnold's career
has been monumental!! Not to mention a gift to the world. He
has lived a life that more than separates him from the masses. As
I have always said you cannot argue with his lifetime career achievements.
Perhaps with so much hype of non talents today the critics have
lost their ability to reason. I blame it not on either party but
on sheer ignorance of the facts needed to pick him. They honored
Roy Acuff merely for two reasons: He was ill and being called the "King
Of Country Music." This allowed the Kennedy folks to be politically
correct. I have nothing against Mr.Acuff. In truth his gospel
songs were heartfelt.
Getting back to the original question? Why not Eddy Arnold?
Why not the best? It behooves those selecting to truly honor the
greats. In the past few years they have opted for mediocrity.
This is not just my thoughts but many entertainment writers have said the
same.
In closing if Eddy Arnold's heyday was now think of impact.
He would blow all the others away. He sold his records in an era
void of much of today's mass merchandising.

The Country Music Hall of Fame® honors performers, musicians,
songwriters, promoters, music publishing and recording leaders, broadcasters
and others in the music industry, reflecting country music’s stature as
both art and enterprise.
The first Country Music Hall of Fame® members—Jimmie Rodgers,
Fred Rose, and Hank Williams—were elected in 1961. Hall of Fame plaques
were displayed at the Tennessee State Museum in Nashville until 1967, when
the original Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum building opened
on Music Row in Nashville. The plaques are now housed in the new Country
Music Hall of Fame® and Museum facility, which opened May 2001 in downtown
Nashville.

As I am only of the age of 35. It has been yrs that I have listened
to Eddy Arnold. I learned the Gutair because of him, and back in 1999'
After I had a motorcycle accident, It was Eddy Arnold songs and Insperation
that made me pull myself up and get out of a wheelchair and relearn everything
I had to Relearn. Nowadays I Miss only one thing and that is his songs
of Christmas and all that were on the Album because they are out of print.
It is called "Christmas with Eddy Arnold and was released back in 1967"...
I wish you the best Eddy Arnold, could you tell me if there is anykind

MORE ONE EDDY ARNOLD'S BIG LAND SALE IN BRENTWOOD !!!
One ''innovative project'' scored while the other never got off
the ground during the debut of a new Brentwood zoning designation.
Southern Land Co.'s OSRD-IP proposal for Eddy Arnold's land, nearly
200 acres off Murray Lane, met with a few reservations from citizens but
solid praise from commissioners.
''I bought that property in 1952. Surely the people don't expect
me to hold it forever with grass and bushes,'' Arnold said.
It was the addition of town houses to the plan that prompted the
disapproval of a few citizens, like Murray Lane resident Celeste Patterson.
But Southern Land President Tim Downey's proposal won over a few naysayers
with its images of creative architecture, a preserved rural setting and
''tucked away'' town houses reminiscent of Charleston, S.C., or Savannah,
Ga.
''I think you've maybe taken this to an extra level,'' Dunn said.
''It's a nice standard for us to start off with.''
The second proposal, the mixed-use commercial and residential Brentwood
Village, wasn't so warmly received.
''If it was important to me or my kids to be able to ride a bike
to the video store, I wouldn't have moved here,'' said Edmondson Pike resident
Daniel Boone, one of many citizens who spoke out against the proposal.
Nashville attorney Shawn Henry presented the proposal on behalf
of Aronov, describing a plan that would provide limited commercial services
for its residents while employing traffic calming methods and curbing commercial
expansion.
Commissioners were somewhat complimentary toward the idea, but said
it just wasn't what the residents of Brentwood wanted. They didn't officially
vote, but still managed to roundly discourage Aronov from continuing with
its current proposal.

BRENTWOOD — A new subdivision could be coming to Brentwood — courtesy
of country singer Eddy Arnold.
The 86-year-old Hall of Famer has owned his 197-acre property on
Murray Lane since 1952, and the land has been on the market.
Now Southern Land Co., developers of LaurelBrooke in Grassland,
Westhaven in Franklin and Carronbridge in Cool Springs, is interested in
developing the tract.
''It's a beautiful piece of property that's got a great location,''
said Nancy DeKalb, a spokesperson for Southern Land. ''It's the perfect
location for an upscale community.''
The company, which has an option to buy the land, will present a
proposal to city commissioners on Monday.
The proposed development would have more than 100 lots, with a mixture
of one-acre lots and more densely clustered townhouses. The plan to be
presented to the city proposes rezoning 111 acres of the property to OSRD-IP,
which allows for townhouses and homes with smaller lots, while leaving
the remaining 86 acres zoned R2, or traditional suburban residential.
It would be the first use of the new zoning, created after a plan
for a mixed-use development on Cal Turner's farm on Concord Road was axed
by commissioners.
Brentwood City Manager Mike Walker said Southern Land Co. would
still face several more steps before its plan could become a reality.
''The code is set up so that if everyone likes (it), it can't be
construed as an endorsement of a future rezoning,'' he said. If reactions
are favorable, Walker predicts that the rezoning proposition will be on
the City Commission's agenda for first reading for its Jan. 12 meeting.

Don Larkin, 90 passed away this week. He was an original country
music disc jockey in New York City. He was the host of "Hometown Frolic"
over WAAT in New Jersey. He once said, "He never heard a song that Eddy
Arnold could not sing", although he said that he was not enamored by "Love
Bug Itch".
Don Larkin brought Eddy and his songs to New Yorkers such as myself.
Reading about his death in the New York papers this morning brought back
fond memories. Eddy remembers Don Larkin well.

Country great Don Gibson who wrote one of Eddy Arnold's hit record
"I CAN'T STOP LOVING YOU" is dead at age 75. He wrote so many GREAT songs
like "SWEET DREAMS" & "OH LONESOME ME". He also wrote "BLUE BLUE
DAY" which EDDY also recorded. Plus so many other great songs...he surely

was issued on a CD by RCA in 1991. It's out of print and is in great
demand by Eddy's fans. It's available on ebay for around $150.00.
BMG (RCA) has over 1,100 songs by Eddy in their vault. Yet they refuse
to issue most of them. There are about 60 songs which they continue
to issue on CDs over and over again. There are literally thousands
of fans who would purchase his original Christmas album but I don't believe

IT just amazes me that Larry Ling has never interviewed Eddy Arnold.
He had Steve Lawrence and Edie Gourmet on several weeks ago. Yes
they are terrific talents but Eddy's career is so much more impressive
period. I just wonder when the lord calls Eddy to his reward if the
press will write anything? Probably that a singer has passed the
very minimal they can say. I called Kings office twice to no avail.

i was born in the farm area of toledo, ohio and most of my friends
were from the southern part of the usa. i was born and raised on hillbilly
music and eddy arnold arnold was always on my mother's stack of 78 records.

About the Artist
One of the most enduring and prolific country musicians, Eddy Arnold
began cutting tracks in 1944. Although he retired from public performing
in the spring of 1999, he was still releasing records at the end of the
century. In a career that spans over fifty years, he created 28 number
one songs and countless charting singles, establishing himself as a spectacularly
successful country musician. His music combines sleek and sophisticated
vocals with the country genre, so that his work reaches a broader, more
urbane audience. Some of his singles crossed into the pop charts, and he
is known for bringing country music to the cities.
Arnold was born on a farm in Tennessee, and began playing the guitar
at the tender age of 10. His father, who played both the fiddle and bass,
died when Arnold was only 11. This tragedy resulted in Arnold's leaving
school early to help on the farm. He got his first big musical break when
he made a radio appearance on WMPS Memphis. After six years at the radio
station, his success there led him to become a featured singer in Golden
West Cowboys. Known then as the Tennessee Plowboy, Arnold worked with several
artists at the Grand Ole Opry during World War II, including R. J. Reynolds'
Camel Caravan, Redd Stewart, Minnie Pearl, and San Antonio Rose.
Arnold cut his first single, "Mommy Please Stay Home With Me," in
1944 for RCA Victor. This marked the beginning of a prosperous and significant
recording career. In 1945, he went solo, and he also married Sally Gayhart.
His career took off in 1945, as he released three singles that charted
in the Top 5. His singles continually charted, and in 1947 both "What is
Life Without Love" and "It's a Sin" were number one hits. "I'll Hold You
in My Arms" spent a phenomenal 46 weeks on the country chart and 21 weeks
at the top in addition to placing in the top 30 on the pop charts. It was
the number one song of the decade, and helped to establish Arnold in both
country and pop music scenes. Nearly twenty years later, Arnold's work
would reappear on the pop charts; prior to that period, though, he was
astonishingly popular on country charts.
Arnold's career flourished. In 1948, for example, he charted nine
singles. His number one songs from that year include "Anytime," "What a
Fool I Was," "My Daddy is Only a Picture," "Just a Little Loving," "Bouquet
of Roses," and "Texarkana Baby." His prominence was heightened when Colonel
Tom Parker, who later worked with icon Elvis Presley, became his manager.
In 1949, he released a slew of other hits, such as "I'm Throwing Rice"
and "Don't Rob Another Man's Castle." He also began appearing on popular
TV shows, specifically The Perry Como Show and Arthur Godfrey's Talent
Scouts. His success on these programs led to his own show, Eddy Arnold
Time, the first televised program to center on a country star. Between
1951 and 1956, Arnold released no fewer than five number one songs: "There's
Been a Change in Me," "Kentucky Waltz," "I Wanna Play House with You,"
"Easy on the Eyes," and "A Full-Time Job."
During the period between 1956 and 1965, Arnold continued to chart
singles, although some of the songs did not peak at number one or even
make the top 10. At this stage in his career, Arnold began experimenting
with his style, polishing and smoothing vocals and providing rich orchestration
for a more urbane sound. In 1965, he achieved remarkable commercial success
with the single "What's He Doing in My World?" which placed on both the
country and the pop charts. During the 1960s, Arnold produced several songs
that crossed from country to pop charts, such as "Make the World Go Away,"
"The Last Word in Lonesome," "Turn the World Around," and "They Don't Make
Love Like They Used To." Other hits like "I Want to Go With You," "Somebody
Like Me," "Lonely Again," and "Turn the World Around" also crossed the
charts. His ability to synthesize country and urbane sounds led to great

I have looked at the song list on the new BMG Heritage Cd called
the "Ultimate Eddy Arnold." The song list is a disappointment. There
is a Jim Reeves Cd that was similar in its song selection. I did find the
same label did a Charley Pride anthology that looked like a fair representation
of his RCA years. An earlier letter in this forum suggested work from Eddy
in the 70's thru 80's. I would like to suggest an RCA/Bmg Heritage Eddy
Arnold anthology that included work with every producer who recorded Eddy
thru his last RCA producer Harold Bradley. I have my ideas, including special
cuts from albums that are not available on CD. If every producer had three
titles, it would be an interesting project. Some examples:

the productions excellent and some of the very best that was recorded on

Since I did the work, maybe RCA/BMG will release it. Seriously,
maybe we as a forum of fans can communicate our wish to see this or another
true retrospective of Eddy released by his label. Whole albums would be
appreciated as well, as I know many of you agree. Thanks for "reading".
As you can see, this would cover the decades with a true anthology.
I believe an artist like Eddy needs such a released work, but I know I
am preaching to the choir. It has frustrated me how many few songs are
repackaged out of such a large collection of recorded music, sometimes
compiled by someone who may not know or even be a fan of the artist. At
least it seems that way to me. While I assume many of you have favorites,
maybe this idea of producers over the years is a good way to start an anthology.
My thanks to Bill Comer for this website, and the hard work that
has been invested over the years.

In recent years we have made a effort to honor Eddy with the Kennedy
Center Honors as an appreciation for all the joy he has given us through
the years.
I would like to get fan feedback on a new project.
Bear Family Records did a good job in covering Eddy's early work
of the 1940's and 1950's on CD and RCA/BMG has done a good job covering
Eddy's work from the 1960's which Eddy considers his best work. But all
of Eddy songs are great. There is a great void of his work from the 1970's
and 1980's not on CD. Though many of us have all of Eddy's Records on 45's
and albums. They don't work well at the beach or in the car. And we can
never get enough of Eddy's music. Wouldn't you like to get material on
CD from Eddy's albums "Cowboy" 1976 or "Close Enough to Love" 1983. or
the single "The Valley Below" 1984. Some of my favorites.
Bill, maybe you could help us in how to go about this. Who to contact
etc. Comments from Eddy's fans would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I tried searching for the track listings on amazon but they didn't list

Ever since I was a little girl (I'm 32 now), I've been listening
to your songs. I found an old letter you wrote to my father, ROGER PETERSEN,
many, many years ago. My parents even kept the envelope in which it was
sent in. I believed my parents lived in San Leandro, CA, at the time. My
mother's name is KAREN PETERSEN. I don't know if you remember them, but
I wanted you to know that they have always thought very highly of you and
have shared your music with all five of their children. One of my childhood

Why so gloomy sounding? In everything give thanks & praise
to the Lord! Your website is going great guns, especially the 2 new featured
articles with photos (great to see recent/new pics of Eddy here - this
site is unique in that it regularly produces new articles and pics on Eddy
- so you see you are really blessed) and barring a few days inaccessibility
the guest book is back on track again.
But Bill, why just stop at thanks for the first ever visitor who
signed your guest book. You should honour him by creating a HALL OF EDDY
ARNOLD FANS and induct him there right at the top along with a brief writeup
on him, something similar on the lines you have written about him below.
He is emotionally & statistically speaking of importance to this website
and to you personally so he should I believe be given this special place
of honour.
I am sure ever since the inception of this site you have enjoyed
wonderful support and met a lot of true Eddy Arnold Fans - induct them
too into your hall of fans...there is a hall of fame in most known establishments
why not a hall of fans for your most devoted of Eddy fans. I am sure they
have earned the honour and Eddy himself and his numerous fans around the
globe would love to know who they are. You need not put their website addresses

Actually on the main page its an idea but you could also have a
FAN FACE OF THE FORTHNIGHT too...for fans who submit their photo to you
and wish to have their photograph displayed on main page as an Eddy Arnold
Fan Face of the Week/Forthnight whatever duration you decide it should
be. Same format applies photo, name, country. It would be nice to see fresh
faces every forthnight/month and to know that these people with faces love
and care about Eddy and that he is very much alive in their hearts. You
will perhaps need to discuss this with your son and committee members.
AND you will need the photos and the permission from the fans themselves.
These are but just a couple of suggestions. Really up to you.
But regarding your first ever signer to this book I think he really
deserves that honour and you would in the long run save yourself a lot
of trouble explaining him to the masses, every once in a while. He will
be there for all time for everyone to see and appreciate the constant effort
and work that he has put into the site. He meticulously and religiously
works at grooming the site to your honour and Eddy's edification. I think
such staunch commitment deserves something special in return. It is easy
enough for you to do. So do it for your buddy AND for your site.
Think about it, the idea isn't half bad really. And it would probably be
a nice birthday present from you to that very special fan and indispensable
aide to the website. Again
think about it. But this forum is always open to views from all
fans. Although your opinion has always been the ultimate one for me. So
whatever your decision - to have or not to have I leave this in your very
excellent hands to shape and shine.
Of course I hoping most definitely to see Frank, Nancy, and Larry
in this famous hall of fans, if you ever decide you all would want to have
it. I have greatly admired their input too from a distance. For myself
I have no personal stake or motivation in this other than to see this website
grow from strength to strength in a continuation of its current status
that of being an excellent home away from home for all Eddy Arnold music
lovers.

Recently, the guestbook was out of order for several days. I apologize
for this, however, I have no control over it. I pay a third party to maintain
it just as most webmasters do.
I would like to take this opportunity to personally "Thank" Don
Stewart for helping me maintain this website. He regularly checks it and
notifies me immediately if he discovers something wrong. Don and I go back
a long way. He was the first Eddy Arnold fan to sign this guestbook in
March of 1998. Since that time, he has sent MANY fans to the site and most

Don has also encouraged fans to write about their personal experiences
with meeting Eddy or seeing him in concert.

I'm Blue". It has been out of print for many years, but you may find
one on ebay. Good luck! It also occurred to me that it is on "The

My name is Dragan Stajic and I’m editor in chief on radio FEDRA
from Yugoslavia. Milosevic’s regime used to forbid our radio ‘course we’re
fighting for democracy. So, we’re closed for almost two years, as only
one in our region. In our program, we are trying to introduce world’s
music: pop, rock, folk, country… but we have two problems in it: a) Here
is no legal records from abroad ( even: Mozart, Chopin, Brahms…) b) Still
now we are very poor country, so it’s very expensive for us to buy records

HI! My dad is the same age as Eddy, in fact their birthdays are
two weeks apart, Tell,Dad is in the nursing room recupering from prostate
& Hernia surgeries he had done two weeks ago. He's doing good but he
let his prostate go for so long that now he'll have a bag on him for the
rest of his life,They inserted a tube into his stomach & has to have
bag change often. He had to be rush to the hospital twice this month because
the bag was "plug " up. Please tell Eddy about him His name is Gordon Sage
and he is in #r.223,Ridgeview Nursing home,33 Dorrance Ave, 14220.He love

written story of her visit to see Eddy. She tended to every detail...and

I wish we could also get Bear Family to purchase the masters of
all of eddy's unreleased material, as many as 70 unreleased songs over
the years.
I'm curious about such titles as "The Birthmark Henry Thompson Talks
About"; "All But One";"Being Loved By You"; "Gentle Is My Love"; "Catch
Me a Kiss";"I Know a Good Thing When I Feel It", and so many more. What
do you think folks, can we convince them? This is a whole lot of material

I wonder why Eddy's early 50's hits aren't available on CD yet.
I hope Bear Family will release a second set of his 50's material soon,
but I wonder does anyone have some of those early 50's recordings such
as Mama Come Get Your Baby Boy, Hep Cat Baby, Bundle Of Southern Sunshine
and the original version of Riches Man In The World? I hope his other 60's
albums will be available on CD soon also. The only three that I can think
of that are on CD are the classic My World, Christmas With Eddy Arnold
and Cattle Call. I sent an Email to Bear Family a while back and they said
they aren't planning any Eddy Arnold releases yet, but let's hope one of
these days there will be a surprise!

I will be going to the hall of fame, and I was wondering if the Eddy Arnold
exhibit is as good as advertised. I sure hope that it is. It amazes me
too Don that Eddy has been shunned by the Kennedy Center. He needs to be

The question asked of us Eddy Arnold Fans is why isn't Eddy in the
Kennedy Center Of Performing Arts?. He wasn't a boozer, never took drugs,
was never arrested, he is married to the same women for 62 years this Nov.
28, 2003. He is also the only person dead or alive in any genre of music...to
have charted in seven straight decades. His recent contribution to the
Country Hall of Fame of all his memorabilia was simply outstanding. He
has given to the Country Hall of Fame ...more than any other artist has.
The Country Hall of Fame was very pleased to receive this enormous amount
of things Eddy truly cherished. He could have given all these possessions
to his children or Grand-Kids. But he wanted them to be available for all
to see...instead of locked up in his children's closet gathering dust.
We all know all the Awards Eddy has received though the years. One
Doctorate award after another....the seventh person to enter the
Country Music Hall of Fame.....the first Country Music Entertainer of the
Year. And the list goes on and on.
With all this said, we Eddy Arnold fans can't help but ask ...."Why
was Eddy shunned again for the Kennedy Art's Center award this year again.?"
I was sadden to hear of the recent death of Johnny Cash. Although I never
cared much for his singing. It is interesting to note though. That he was
Nominated to the Kennedy Art Center in 1996. Even more interesting is the
fact listed in today's...."This Day In Country Music". That Johnny Cash
was arrested on this day in 1965 for bringing 1,163 pills across the Mexican
border in his guitar case. One of the GREATEST things Eddy donated to the
Country Hall Of Fame was his guitar.
We all know how GREAT Eddy is....but I know it hurts him to be shunned
year after year....with sometime "no names" to most of us. A lot of us
say......Eddy is to good to be in there among some of those shady people.
I myself truly believe this....but Eddy has something better. He has his
wonderful family......and he has his Loyal Fan's.....Eddy, God bless You

Like the rest of the music world that has taste, I am saddened that
Eddy Arnold has once again been overlooked by the Kennedy Center.
In a way I am glad because I really do not think that Eddy belongs
with those who are awarded this "honor." No, Eddy is a decent, honest,
upright and moral family man. There are no scandals associated with him,
no criminal record for him to be proud of, no all night drinking binges
or drug abuse in his past. He is even an American citizen. How could he
stand a chance with all these faults against him. No, Eddy Arnold would
add something all of those chosen for the honor and those who chose them
put together lack: dignity. There is no need to feel sorry for ourselves.
We know and appreciate Eddy! All the others have to search in vain for
the rest of their lives for what we already have.

NANCY VISITS EDDY AT HIS BRENTWOOD OFFICE !!!
Hi Everyone ~ Well, I told you to stay tuned to this site for a
GREAT story about Nancy Richardson's visit to see Eddy and his secretary
[Roberta].
Well I'm not about to spoil her exciting story of her visit. Being
a great friend, she confided in asking me...If I think she should write
about her visit?
My reply to her was ..."Are you kidding me?" She thought maybe after
reading the negative remarks after Doris Lewis posted.... maybe she shouldn't.
I told her I thought the both posts were from the same sick person. As
Bill Comer pointed out....He/She didn't post their emails. It is sad to
say that there are people in this world like that. They see what a great
site this is....and just want to disrupt it. But enough about that....Nancy
has told me in brief about her wonderful visit. I'm sure all of you that
reads her story when she has the time to post it...will find it very interesting.
Her story is just outstanding what little she rushed off in an email for
me to read. You will just need to return in a few days or a week.... to
