CHEROKEE NATIONAL FOREST

Greetings and hello from Tennessee. Hopefully as this page grows, I will have a good selection of links that I have found not only enjoyable to read, but many times a little educational and thought provoking.

I live in the beautiful Cherokee National Forest in extreme south eastern Tennessee. The constant change and beauty that surrounds me every day makes living here very enjoyable.

I will be updating this often with hopes of making this a page you might want to bookmark!

Please take a little time and explore the following links. I have found all of these are not only wonderful for what they contain, but will take me to many other sites that I have not listed here. So make yourself a cup of tea, grab a snack, and sit back and be ready to discover some of the nicest sites I have found while surfing. You may not agree with all the content in each, but you will not be bored! I promise!

Please take the time to read the words of Chief Seattle in another letter he wrote. This text was found at Sequoyah's Museum in Vonore, Tennessee.

WHERE IS THE EAGLE GONE

The Great Chief in Washington sends word that he wishes to buy our land. The land is strength to us. Yes we do not own or buy that for us. Every part of the earth is sacred to my people.

We know that whiteman does not understand our ways. Our portion of the land is the same to him as the next, for he is a stranger who comes in the night and takes whatever he needs. The earth is not his brother, but his enemy and when he has conquered it, he moves on. He leaves his father's grave and his children's birthright...Is forgotten.

There is no quiet place in the whiteman's cities. No place to hear the leaves of Spring or the rustle of insect wings. But, perhaps beacause I am savage and do not understand...the chatter only seems to insult the ears. And what is there to life if a man cannot hear the lovely cries of the Whippoorwill or the arguements of the Frog on the pond at night.

The whites, too, shall pass...perhaps sooner than other tribes. Continue to contaminate your bed and will be one night suffocated in their own waste. When the Buffalo are all slaughtered, the wild Horses all tamed, the secret corners of the forest heavy with the scent of many men, and the view of the ripe hills blotted by talking wires...Where is the thicket..Gone. Where is the Eagle..Gone. And what is to say goodbye..so the swift and the hunt, the end of living and the beginning of survival.
