If tomorrow all the things were gone I worked for all my life and I had to start again with just my children and my wife. I thank my lucky stars to be living here today, 'cause the flag still stands for freedom and they can't take that away. From the lakes of Minnesota, to the hills of Tennessee, across the plains of Texas, from sea to shining sea. From Detroit down to Houston and New York to L.A., well, there's pride in every American heart and it's time that we stand and say — that I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free. And I won't forget the men who died who gave that right to me. And I gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today, 'cause there ain't no doubt I love this land. God bless the U.S.A. — Lee Greenwood (1983)

Almost 28 years since George Strait's first single "Unfound" debuted on the country chart, the King of Country Music has finally won a GRAMMY award for Best Country Album ("Troubadour"). George, your fans are very proud of you!!!

12.05.08

The Grammy nominations were announced earlier in the week. George Strait has been nominated four times: Best Country Album for "Troubadour", Best Male Country Performance for "Troubadour", and twice in the Best Country Collaboration with Vocals category for "House Of Cash" (his duet with Patty Loveless) and "Shiftwork" (his Top 5 duet with Kenny Chesney). The awards show will air on CBS on February 8th, 2009. George finally has a real chance to win the elusive award. George's fans know that he has yet to receive a single Grammy award after more than 25 years of making hits. As a matter of fact, he was nominated only once during the 1980's, in 1988 for "All My Ex's Live In Texas" (he lost to Randy Travis), and several times in the 1990's and 2000's.

George Strait was a big winner at last night's CMA awards, grabbing Album of the Year trophy for "Troubadour" (his fifth win in this category) and Single of the Year trophy for "I Saw God Today" (his second win in this category).

The Academy of Country Music has announced that George Strait will receive the prestigious "Artist of the Decade" award during next year's awards ceremony. George was a contender for this special award in the 1980's (Alabama was the recipient) and 1990's (Garth Brooks was selected instead).

George Strait's single "I Saw God Today" finally reached #1, becoming George's 43rd #1 Billboard single. George Strait has the most #1 songs of any artists (Conway Twitty is at #2 with 40 #1s, followed by Merle Haggard with 38 #1s). Congratulations, George!

04.09.08

George Strait scores his fourth #1 album (Troubadour) on the Billboard 200 Album chart, which tracks album sales across all types of music. The album also reached #1 on the Top Country Albums chart, giving George his 22nd #1 country album, more than any other country artist.

More than 26 years after his chart debut on May 16, 1981, George Strait adds another accomplishment to an already long list. On this week's Billboard Hot Country Songs chart two of George Strait's songs, Shiftwork (a duet with Kenny Chesney) and I Saw God Today (the lead single from his forthcoming album Troubadour) are both in the Top 10 (#4 and #8, respectively). The last time an artist had two songs in the Top 10 was in February of 2002, when Tim McGraw's The Cowboy In Me was at #5 and his duet with Jo Dee Messina Bring On The Rain was at #4.

According to www.georgestrait.com, MCA Nashville and George Strait will release a new album titled "Troubadour" on April 1st. The new album includes a duet with Patty Loveless (one of my personal all-time favorite female singers) and contains 12 songs. The first single, "I Saw God Today," is flying high on the charts and will likely become George's 43rd Billboard #1 song. George already has the most Billboard #1 songs (the next on the list is Conway Twitty with 40, followed by Merle Haggard with 38).

02.14.08

As expected, George Strait went home empty-handed after the 2/10 Grammy ceremony. However, it has been a terrific week for the King, as his newest single, "I Saw God Today," entered the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart at #19, George's highest ever debut on that chart.

12.08.07

George Strait received 2 Grammy nominations, bringing his career total to 9. Unfortunately George has never won a Grammy award, but 2007 was a great year for the King, so I think this could be the year when he finally gets the elusive award. Be sure to watch the Grammy awards ceremony on February 10, 2008 on CBS.

George Strait just proved that he was still the undisputed King of Country Music. George received a total of 8 ACM (Academy of Country Music) nominations (more than anyone else!), including Entertainer of the Year, Top Male Vocalist, Album of the Year ("It Just Comes Natural"), Single and Song of the Year ("Give It Away") and Music Video of the Year ("Seashores of Mexico"). George also received two nominations for producing the single "Give It Away" and album "It Just Comes Natural." Watch the awards show live on CBS on May 15th at 8 PM ET.

02.20.07

George's song "It Just Comes Natural" is enjoying a second week at #1 on the Billboard Singles Chart. Click here for the complete list of George's #1 songs.

12.07.06

George Strait received his seventh Grammy nomination for his performance of Merle Haggard's song "The Seashores of Old Mexico." George received his first Grammy nomination in 1988 for his performance of "All My Ex's Live In Texas." He had to wait until 1994 to receive his second Grammy nomination for his contribution to the great album "Tribute To The Music Of Bob Wills & The Texas Playboys". George was honored with 2 additional nominations in 1997 for his song "Carrying Your Love With Me" and album of the same name. Four years later, George received another nomination for "Murder on Music Row", his great duet with Alan Jackson. Last year George was once again nominated, this time for collaborating with Jimmy Buffett and friends on "Hey Good Lookin'." So far the man who has won dozens of CMA, ACM, American Music, CMT and other awards, the newest member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, has been unable to win a Grammy! Considering that Vince Gill and Keith Urban are nominated in the same category (Vince Gill is a favorite and has won in this category 8 times since 1992), George's odds of winning a Grammy award are slim. For the complete list of Country nominees, click here.

11.07.06

George Strait was finally recognized by the CMA last night by being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. After singing his latest #1 song, Give It Away, George was presented with the award by Kris Kristofferson, himself a Hall of Famer. George received a standing ovation from the audience. He is currently busy preparing for his 2007 tour. For the complete schedule, check the official website.
