Earl's Pedal Steel Homepage

For those of us who didn't have sense
enough to take up the fiddle!

This is a page just like the millions of other steel guitar pages out there.
I can't imagine why anyone would be interested in me or the pedal steel for that matter.
But apparently the public's desire to snoop endlessly throughout this "WWW" thing, is boundless.
So, bear with me,
don your goggles and seat belts,
remember to keep your hands and legs inside the car at all times,
and HANG ON!

Hi! My name is Earl Clark and I’ve been cussin’ pedal steel guitars for over 20 years. This home page is being presented for those of you who suffer from the same affliction. You won’t learn anything here, as a matter of fact, this page is just another way to waste a few minutes of your life in an aimless fashion. I have heard however, that reading every single word, right down to the bottom, can relieve certain complications brought on by gout. I don’t know.

I'm living in beeyootiful Smashville TN. I've been here for a little over 2 years and I love it! You must know however, that I was hatched and raised in Texas, the greatest state in the nation. And I wear that badge proudly.

I've done my share of road work through the years. I 've played all over the western U.S. and Canada and I don't believe there's one beer joint or honky-tonk in Texas that I haven't played or at the very least, been fired from!

Since moving to Nashburg...er, Nashville, I've gotten very involved in the recording end of the bidness. I've learned a few things after working with some of these big-shot engineering whiz-kids. Not only do they want ya' to play in time but in pitch too! Make up your mind, one or the other, you can't have both!

I'm currently working in a project for a newly signed artist on a major label here in town. I can't say who just yet, but stayed tuned for more details....

I'm 44 years old, divorced and looking for a woman who wouldn't mind me never bein' home or not doin' anything when I am. It would be helpful if you're able to lift at least 50 pounds so you can load my gear for me. But I promise to always pull the Suburban up jest as close to the porch as I can get it. Now tell me that ain't true love!

I don't drink or smoke but I do like to dip snuff and swear like a sailor!
(Sounding better all the time, huh ladies?)

Golf is another one of my major passions too. I ain't no good but I sure do like cussin' real loud outdoors. I always get my money's worth as I seem to swing at the ball a lot of times.

As you sit there in your cozy little cabin reading this, I think it's only fair to warn you that on occasion I like to climb in behind the yoke of a Cessna 172. So, if you hear the faint drone of an airplane engine that sounds like it's gettin' a little too close for comfort, you better grab Mama and the kids and yank 'em down to the root cellar.

Now you got the complete skinny on me. This oughta' give you something to yap about around the water cooler tomorrow.

Currently Attempting to Play:

  • Mullen D-10 with 8/6, equipped with George L's. I'll be having Mr. Bud Carter build me one of his fine guitars with a very "unique" custom finish later this year.
  • Western Auto "Wizard Pro Steel XLB1000". This unique instrument features; 9 strings, 11 knee levers (no pedals) and a built-in revolving christmas tree floodlight. It's powered by a 7 1/2 h.p. Evinrude boat motor. They jest don't make 'em like this any more. Great conversation piece!
  • All of the O.H.C.I.H.T.L.A. (other heavy crap I have to lug around):

  • SansAmp Rackmount Stereo Pre-Amp. This thing is slick. Very quiet in the studio.

  • Lexicon LXP-1 and LXP-5. High quality, stereo reverb and delay.

  • Peterson Rackmount Strobe Tuner. It don't get no closer 'n this!

  • 2 - Peavey Nashville 400's. Don't use 'em at all in the studio. Too noisy. For live applications though, I feed the house board direct with the low outs of the SansAmp and feed the power amp inputs of the 400's with the high outs from the SA. These amps are for live stage monitoring of my steel only. These amps are going to be replaced soon with in-ear monitors.

  • Very old Randall "Steelman 500". 300 watts RMS (yes, RMS) into a 15" JBL. This thing will damage your ears. Made lot's of money with this amp through the years. Used only occasionally in the studio (very warm, pleasant tone), only when the engineer feels like putting up with da' noise. ;)

  • Marrs "RGS". This supposedly stands for "Resonator Guitar Simulator". I don't think I can stretch it that far, but, with some distortion, works great for slide and lap steel overdubs.

  • Goodrich MatchBro and gas pedal. MatchBro is fine for live gigs but not real enough for the studio.

  • BJS bars and Dunlop picks, blah...blah...blah.

  • Am currently searching for great sounding 8 string Dobro. Any leads...?

  • Well that's all for now folks, but this page is in a transitional state.

Please feel free to click on my email address below to contact me. If I can answer any questions you might have, I'll be glad to do so. If I can't, then you can bet I'll make up some sort of far-fetched lie.

P.S. Let me know if that gout thing works. :)
