Patsy began singing in her church choir. When she was 13 she became
seriously ill with rheumatic fever. She developed a bad infection in her
throat and this changed her singing career forever. At first she did local
radio show and local functions. In 1954 she got a recording contract with
Four Star Records. She recorded at Four Star Records from 1955-1960 and
for Decca from1960-1963.
There were not many hits in the beginning. She recorded "Walking
After Midnight" on November 8, 1956. It was not released right away.
Patsy preformed on the Arthur Godfrey Talent Show and preformed the hit.
She also did the Hank Williams Classic "Your Cheatin' Heart".
After her apperance on the Arthur Godfrey Show the company did not waste
any time releasing "Walking After Midnight".
Patsy next release was in November of 1960 "I Fall To Pieces",
"Crazy", "She's Got You" and so on and so on. One of
my very favorites and Patsy's too is "A Poor Man's Roses", she
recorded this song twice in 1956 and again in 1961.
On June 14,1961 there was a car wreck the almost cost Patsy her life.
She was with her brother Sam in Nashville when they struck another car
head on. The crash sent her through the windshield. After her accident
Patsy always wore a wig to cover the scar on her forehead that was left
because of the accident. Her big hit "Crazy" was recorded shortly
after the wreck. Because of broken ribs Patsy was unable to reach some
of the high note. She came back a week later and recorded the song.
"Sweet Dreams" and "Faded Love" are just a few
of the songs released after Patsy's death on March 5, 1963. "Faded
Love" is almost the story of Patsy's life at the time. When she sings
this song you can almost hear her crying.
I love to hear Patsy Cline sing. She has a voice you can distinguish
anywhere. I feel no one can immitate her, though some have come close. I
do not think there will ever be another person who can sing with the emotion
and feeling Patsy did.
