LeAnn's profile

The newest member of the MCG/Curb family is creating quite a buzz among the music community, lending credence to the old saying that "good things really do come in small packages'. Singing on stage since the age of five, LeAnn Rimes has become a favorite in every place she's performed.( I can account for that comment!!)

LeAnn was born in Jackson, Mississippi and is now considered the newest child singing sensation to carry on the tradition of Brenda Lee and Tanya Tucker who debuted as 13-year olds and went on to become country music superstars. She won her first talent contest at the age of five and nearly won the lead in Broadway's "Annie 2" at age six. At eight she was a two-week champion on Tv's Star Search. In 1995 she performed 107 different dates even though she had not yet scored a hit record. In May, 1996, her recording of "Blue" written 37 years ago by Bill Mack for Patsy Cline, hit the Billboard charts and rapidly climbed to the top. Her album, "Blue" debuted at number one, with an amazing 123 ,000 sales the first week, making her the youngest country star ever to have an album reach the top spot on Billboard's Chart upon release. Initially the song was recorded as an independent album but after Nashville executives heard the album the family was contacted by both Decca and MCG/Curb Records. Mike Curb convinced the Rimes Family to sign with his organization. LeAnn now lives with her family in Garland/Dallas and has skipped two grades to be ranked as a high school sophomore. She is also taking courses through a Texas Tech University correspondence program .

LeAnn was up for the following nominations at the 1996 CMA awards:
HORIZON AWARD
SINGLE OF THE YEAR
"Blue" - LeAnn Rimes

Sad, but true, LeAnn did not take home the award, but she was absolutely stunning in her beautiful dress as she sang "Blue" and the audience went wild. And then later she came out to accept the Hall of Fame Award for Patsy Montana , who's song she song "Cowboy's Sweetheart". Way to go LeAnn.

LeAnn's First Tour!

Taken from somewhere on the 'net
July 3rd, 1996, 8:30p.m., Napa County Fairgrounds, Calistoga, CA
Deep In The Heart of the Wine Country.

As the white stretch limousine made it's way around the dirt track, the crowd awaited the treat that was in store for them. Some of them had waited in a hot blistering sun for several hours, but it was well worth the wait. After all, history was about to be made. This was the first stop on the first tour of LeAnn Rimes, the 13 year old country singing sensation from Texas and her new band Blue, who are creating such a stir in the country music business. The show was apparently sponsored by Q-105, the local country music station. We were informed that this was to be the only appearance that she would be making on the west coast this year so we felt equally blessed that we were able to make it.

We got there early, anticipating a large crowd due to the coverage that the local country stations were giving the event. She certainly gave the audience what they wanted. Performing everything from Patsy Cline to Patsy Montana; Ben E. King to the Righteous Brothers; and her own songs too, this young lady was certainly at home. She worked the crowd like a pro, and was very appreciative of and responsive to her audience. She even yodels too! Several stations around the country have been playing a duet she recorded with Eddy Arnold, a remake of the legendary favorite, Cattle Call. Hopefully it will be one of the tracks on her first album, which is due to release on Tuesday July 9th 1996.

A few weeks earlier, she had been the center of attention at the 1996 International Country Music Fan Fair held at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds. Mega-acts such as Shania Twain and Tim McGraw had to move over and make room. What every stargazer, disc jockey, music executive, and camera crew came to see was this young lady from Garland, Texas who can belt a song out like the best of country music's performers.

Riding high on the laurels of her first single, Blue, which was originally written for Patsy Cline, she is destined for the heights of stardom in this business. We enjoyed your concert and hope it will be the first of many that we will have the good fortune to attend. Good luck with your career and don't let the business spoil you LeAnn!
