EDU
VIANNA HOMEPAGE
Born in the city of São Paulo, capital
of the state of São Paulo, Edu Vianna had his first contact with
music through a music initiation course for children at the age of four.
Having chosen the drums as his first instrument, and later the violin,
he participated in auditions promoted by the children’s music school.
During primary and secondary school, he organised and participated in various
musical assemblies and small parties for friends. At age 15, he began to
study classical violin at “Escola de Música Carlos Iafelice” and
also began music theory studies in much greater depth.
At the age 18, he enrolled in “Fundação
das Artes de São Caetano do Sul” where he studied arranging and
composition. With the constant support and encouragement of his family,
he began to take part in recordings and shows as a drummer and percussionist.
While pursuing his musical career, he also enrolled in a course of Psychology
and graduated from the “Faculdade de Psicologia” in São Paulo.
He has played and toured internationally with
a variety of national artists, such as Maria Alcina, Moreira da Silva,
Ana Caram, Ney Matogrosso and Zé Geraldo, among others. He
has taken part in many bands including, but not limited to Zona Sul, Tao,
Cassio Polleto Quintet and Acustic Strings which have appeared in São
Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and New York City jazz clubs.
In 1991, as part of the Ana Caram Quartet,
he travelled to Japan to participate in a series of shows at the Blue Note
Osaka. During this period he received a variety of invitations to
record and perform with rock, pop, jazz, mpb (Brazilian Popular Music)
artists and bands on the Tokyo-Osaka circuit.
During his one year stay in Japan, he studied
Taiko (a Japanese percussion instrument) and took part in recording sessions
with studio musicians and technicians. He had the opportunity to
work with excellent sound engineers and learned various recording and mixing
techniques.
On his return to Brazil he began to act as a sound
engineer in studios and mixing rooms, recording his first CD, “Lehmejum”
( Record Runner ).
In 1995, he was invited by Jorge Poulsen
to work for Tecnologia Musical of São Paulo. Since then, he has
gone on to specialize digital audio and is presently editing and mastering
disks.
In October of 1996, he travelled at the invitation
of Digidesign to their Musical Technology Conferences in Los Angeles and
New York, the purpose being to learn new working techniques on digital
audio stations.
During Carnival of 1997, he recorded his second
CD entitled “Jaguar” (Alquimia
New Music). On this album he acted as composer, arranger, musician
(drums and percussion) and producer. His third CD entitled “Gaia”,
which is just being launched, is a companion to “Aurio Corrá” (music
and composition with a New Age theme).
All of Edu Vianna’s CDs were edited and mastered
for him using the most modern and sophisticated equipment and finalising
processes.
