Hey, folks! The Road Dawg is here with you in the dog pound! Right now, we're gonna take a look back at some of the history of Double J's career over the past year. I'll update it as time goes on. I hope you don't mind, but I'm gonna differ from the norm a bit and instead of startin' when Double J and myself first arrived, I'm gonna start when things started gettin' interesting. Sound good? Let's get goin'! In mid-October 1996, Double J made his way back to the WWF after taking a break to work on his sophomore album 'Greater Than Great'. He appeared on interview segments, interrupted matches, and took ANY chance to not only plug his album and upcoming tour, but also to remind everyone that he IS the greatest wrestler alive today! One wrestler, who let the grease from his hair go to his head, took exception to Double J's promotional messages. And on WWF Superstars, as Double J wrestled his return match against Ahmed Johnson, Razor Ramon slid into the ring and pelted Jeff with a chair for the DQ. That Monday night on Raw, as Double J faced the Kyoto Ninja, Razor came down to ringside AGAIN. Jeff was wise to him, though, and rushed him on the outside. But Razor attacked Double J again, dropping him down on the aisle. Double J bravely returned to the match, facing 2-1 odds... but it became too much. Not even Jeff Jarrett can beat 2 men at once, and rather than continue with Razor there to distract him, Double J rolled out and headed up the aisle for a count-out loss. As the saying goes... THIS means WAR! Double J perpetrated several attacks against Razor, including jumping him with a chair just before Razor and his partner Marc Manson, the Equalizers, challenged for the Tag Team Titles. And in one classic moment, Double J burst upon the scene and beat Razor down... then CUT his hair! Razor, always the creative one, repeated this same act not long after. During this time, Double J announced on WWF Superstars that he had found a stable. After being courted by the Horsemen, the Network, and numerous other stables... Jarrett joined the Suntastics, led by Sunny. Jeff also had a special surprise for the WWF... in his dealings with the Network, he'd managed to talk Marc Mero into dumping not only the stable, but SABLE... and thus becoming a Suntastic himself. Razor Ramon had challenged Double J to find a tag team partner to face the Equalizers, and Jeff had done just that! Later on that Superstars, Double J faced WWF Champion Vader in a non-title bout. Jarrett's claims of being so great irritated Vader backstage, and a match was signed between the two. But once again, Razor Ramon came down to ringside... and with the help of a chair shot from ‘Da Grease Guy', Vader was able to pin Jeff. The ONLY time this would EVER happen. After that Double J got himself an interview segment, called 'Great As It Gets', in which he planned to talk about the conspiracy he felt the WWF was waging against him. But Jeff's first guest, WWF President Roddy Piper, destroyed the set after taking exception to many of Double J's questions and comments. This interview, incidently, was nominated for a Slammy. Around the middle of November, Double J gave back to the WWF... in the form of Jerry Lawler! Jeff brought The King back into things, knowing that HE wouldn't be afraid to talk about how the WWF was keeping Double J down, as the other broadcasters were. Lawler's 'King's Court' replaced Double J's interview segment. At this time, the card for the Survivor Series pay-per-view was set. In a War Games match, the Horsemen were slated to battle Eddie Gilbert's Empire as Ahmed Johnson, Shawn Michaels, Arn Anderson, and 'Macho Man' Randy Savage for the Horsemen took on The Giant, Ravishing Rick Rude, and Harlem Heat. The Horsemen went through a nasty breakup, however, which saw Randy Savage leave the team. Needing a wrestler he knew he could count on, Horsemen manager JJ Dillon called Double J. Jeff was scheduled to team with fellow Suntastics Marc Mero, The 1-2-3 Kid, and 'The Blizzard' Adrien Blades against the Hart Foundation and the Legion of Doom. But always eager to show the world just what he could do, Double J accepted and decided to team with the Horsemen. He promised the Suntastics that he would find a replacement for Survivor Series... but in all honesty, WHO could replace Double J? However, seeing their only star rise up into the spotlight while the rest of them fizzled in mediocrity didn't sit well with the Suntastics. As Double J and Marc Mero teamed to face the team of Vader and Mr. Perfect, Mero turned on Jeff as did the other Suntastics. Razor Jabrone then ran down and took advantage of a weakened Double J. It was now Survivor Series time. Double J, of course, now did not find a replacement for the Suntastic team and they were forced to settle for the Super Machine. As the Suntastics came to ringside, a man leaped from the stands with a chair and hammered each man down to the floor. The man sported a blonde crew cut and had a slight beard growing. After putting down the Suntastics, the man pulled up Marc Mero and hit him with a form of the Diamond Cutter. As the War Games match started, the same man who'd attacked the Suntastics made his way to the ring. It was Double J! A master of disguise! Ain't he great? Double J entered the match and fought for his team. However, as the match drew to a close, Double J carried out a plan of his own! After dropping Rick Rude in the same move he'd used on Marc Mero, which became known as the ‘BlackJack', Double J hit his own PARTNER Shawn Michaels with the move! Jeff climbed out of the cage as the Giant entered the match and left. After Shawn Michaels woke up from the Blackjack, he turned on his Horsemen partners and joined the Empire! Something ONLY known by the Empire... Michaels... and obviously Double J! Why else would he have attacked Shawn? Jeff and Michaels soon met in a 1-1 bout, which was truly a classic encounter. Both men repeatedly got in their signature moves, Double J with his BlackJack and Shawn with the Superkick. However, Double J was DQ'd by the referee for his continual beating of Michaels. This match proved to settle nothing, and both men were eager for a rematch. Not surprisingly, Double J wanted revenge on the Suntastics for their attack. The Super Machine, the newest member, left the WWF for months after Survivor Series, resurfacing in March of 1997. Marc Mero soon left the WWF himself, heading to WCW. The 1-2-3 Kid quit the group, rather than face Double J's wrath. That left but ONE lone member for Double J to deal with. But FIRST... he had another score to settle.
