Xiao Xiannian of New York City took 2nd in this year's Hammer Dulcimer contest. His instrument works like a more typically Winfield hammer dulcimer (and certainly can be called traditional). However, it is much more complex, having more than the usual two bridges. The instrument (and its stand) caught my attention, so, even before the competition, I took this picture. This week's memory comes with a bonus. If you have RealPlayer on your computer, listen to the sound of this instrument.
