Tent 1997 was memorable for several sad things - several long-time Winfield Wipers were unable to make it this year, and of course there was the fire downtown. Smoke
Cafe Espresso II Speaking of sad things... They needed to rename Maria's Delight and held a contest to determine the new name of the best drink on the face of the planet. I suggested that I should be the judge, since I do believe the 25 of them I had in 1996 is probably a record. If anybody knows what the winning new name is please let me know!

Preparing for the 26th. We didn't get in until Wednesday the 17th this year, so for pre-festival activities see the shots taken by Don Shorock and posted before we left.

Usually I take hundreds of photos because I don't trust my "eye" for a good shot and it takes that many for random chance to cause a few good ones to happen. After I started these "trip report" pages last year, I thought this time I would start with a theme in mind, and take fewer, higher quality pictures. Didn't work - there were just too many views and not enough time to waste thinking about anything other than having fun.

The theme stuck, though. I thought I'd take pictures of all the camps I'd heard about on Windfield-L. I was unsuccessful (where'd all the time go? Is it Sunday already?) but just about the first thing on the list when I got home was a suggestion that the "permanent" camps start web pages. I'll be adding camp photos to this page as time permits, if you see yours and you have a web page, drop me an e-mail and I'll turn the photo into a link.

Coffey Grounds The Coffey Grounds became the unofficial rallying point for the Winfield-L members because it was easy to find. I wonder if it was not a coincidence that the Internet Access point was right across the street from the Coffeys?
List Camps Map If I'd had this map with me (and been there a few more days?) I'd have found all of the camps. Since I didn't, Don Shorock provided a Virtual Campground Tour.

Some camps are more banjo-friendly than others.
Crime Scene

Fiasco! The Fiasco Brothers camp. "HEY THERE! Anybody seen Don Shorock today?" On the way to the FB camp, I noticed the heaviest camp sign on the grounds: Pick N Stone and the froggiest. Froggy Mountain

Piano in the Grove!
I thought the gate search would surely have prevented this kind of thing from happening at Winfield. The Bluegrass Police were definitely not around when this picture was taken...
Irish TentEvery time I went over to the Irish Tent there was nobody there. One of those times most of 'em were at Stage 3 for the Hammered Dulcimer workshop.
HD Workshop

Wagon I didn't know this is where Sam A. Funk lives until I got back home. But then I don't get out much...

RatalotRatalot and the Rataissance was the theme of the River Rats camp this year. I was able to find my name and title (Ratscallion, for getting on the list withuot having been by last year to say Howdy.) I also found a Barbara Kislanko in the puzzle (but not on the list of names in the book). WordyGurdy

Somebody else will have to explain this event at stage 6. I was able to get out of participating by agreeing to photograph it.
