Love/Compassion/Grace


Luke 10:29-35 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?" In reply Jesus said: "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper. `Look after him,' he said, `and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.' The *good Samaritan,* is a true reflection of Jesus! One that see's NOT just the person, but the need. Knowing the value of a healing agent and wound wrapper. Picking up the pieces, to see what has been broken. Placing more emphasis on being a repairer and restorer, then a defender and proclaimer. Focused on private assistance, and not public opinion. Accepting the role of being his brother's keeper. Ready and willing to get dirty, and take a risk. Objectivity is intact, not fearing thorny issues that lack easy answers. Preferring compassion over information. He is 'riding high, soaring with the eagles..' He pays the price for another persons comfort. Jesus did that for us. We deserved and expected condemnation, but instead we got grace, compassion, and love.


Is our main job to save people, give them the Gospel? Should we never get sidetracked by their pain or problems? Once their born again, do we tell them get into God's Word, all these other things will solve themselves, life will be easy now and their problems are all over. We will ignore people stuff- heartaches, hunger, illness, fractured lives, struggles, insecurities, failures, and grief because these are just temporal problems. We manage to add so much damage to those peoples lives! We should help them to face their storms with faith, love and compassion. Is it not a fact that the more conservative we get, the more politically correct we become, the less compassion we have. Why can't we be theologically conservative and personally compassionate? When did we depart from our biblical role models and start to ignore Christ's care for the needy? The question has been here since Jesus asked Cain about the welfare of Abel, his brother. Genesis 4:9 Then the LORD said to Cain, "Where is your brother Abel?" "I don't know," he replied. "Am I my brother's keeper?"


To the expert in the law, the wounded man was a subject to discuss. To the robbers, the wounded man was someone to use and exploit. To the religious men, the wounded man was a problem to be advoided. To the innkeeper, the wounded man was a customer to serve for a fee. To the good Samaritan, the wounded man was a human being worth being cared for and loved. To Jesus, all of them and all of us were worth dying for. (NIV..Life Application Bible) When we are face to face with the needs of others..it brings out many different attitudes in us. Jesus has shown in this story of the good but despised Samaritan clearly what attitude was acceptable to Him. If we want to be honest with ourselves, we are so often the expert in law!


My prayer would be this: Dear Heavenly Father; Help us to see the needs in those You have put around us today. I ask that we would see the need, not just the person, and that we would respond with love and compassion. Help us Lord to be as the good Samaritan, and give of ourselves completely, take up the cost for another person that needs a touch of love and care. Remind us Lord, that all we have has been given to us by You. Thank You for seeing us and having compassion. Thank You for bringing the healing touch into our lives so often. We just praise You for paying the price for our lives by Your death on an old rugged cross. Amen.


~ A Testimony of Compassion: ~


Mercy comes natural for some people, I suppose. I know that the Lord gives this gift to certain individuals, and I suppose I am one of them. How do you know if you have this gift? Well, there are some good clues. You get overly involved with people who are hurting in any way. I know from experience that I feel others hurts in my own life. It also devastates me to be helpless to help them. One thing someone with the gift of mercy has to learn is to give the person to the Lord and turn over the hurt and the cure to Him and to not take it upon themselves. Mercy drives me to get very defensive for others feelings and I tend to get very upset when someone is being offended by someone else. Mercy is a tough gift for a man to have, as most see a man crying as a weak person. I have been known to cry even watching others hurting on TV. You feel the others pain, even in a movie. You cry when you hear songs about the coming judgement of the world, because you know what is coming for those who don't know Jesus. It all boils down to your having the mercy that our Lord has. Jesus was full of mercy and had compassion for all. Just reading the New Testament should open all our eyes to the great mercy of the Lord and how we should behave toward others.    {a Follower of Jesus Christ}

I PRAYED THROUGH


Could you spare a minute of your time
I 'd like to share what's lingering in my heart
And on my mind
Today I went back to my knees
Where I often go
But this time your the reason
I just thought you'd like to know

I prayed through the day
Your help is on it's way
Now you don't have to face your needs alone
I made your heartaches mine
Now everything is fine
Today I took your burdens to the throne

Before you see the change just praise the Lord
And don't give the thanks to me
That just what a christians for
Someday I may face winding roads
With mountains in my way
Then I'll need you to pull me through
It will be your turn to say
I prayed through the day
Your help is on it's way

I had to steal away
I felt the need to pray
Today I took your burdens to the Lord.
