My Birthday Dances

On November 12th 2007, I became 50, and so another party was called for!

My 40th birthday party was mega and so 50 called for an extra mega event! The Worcestershire Player’s Club turned out in force to play for the dancing. Barry Jones and I called the dances that over 100 people enjoyed. Dr Jon and Ron conspired and wrote a dance and music called “The Woodcock” which was given it’s first public airing on the 10th of November at the party.

Friends from all over the place brought food and provided a magnificent buffet that was enjoyed by all.

Whether you were there or not, you might just like to see what went on. There are some brilliant photos taken by Max that you can see now by clicking here.

Watch this space for any upcoming news on my 60th birthday!

The Worcestershire Player’s Club

In November 1997 I had a milestone birthday, and I marked it with a mega dance in the Spadesbourne Suite in Bromsgrove.

Lots of dancers, musicians and friends came, and at least three bands agreed to provide the music. Barry Jones - another fine local caller - and I called the dances.

We had a Scottish pipe and drum band as well, and David Hawkins, son of Herbal Remedy's Ron & Fiona, played drums with the band.

We all had a marvellous time, and after a relatively 'normal' first half with each band playing a few dances, they decided that it would be more fun to join forces and play all at the same time. What with that and some backing tapes provided by Herbal Remedy, courtesy of the magic of the Internet, the sound was tremendous, and a truly breathtaking experience for all concerned.

Megaband

Our very own "wall of sound" - three great bands on stage at once: Barry's Best, the Cat's Whiskers and Herbal Remedy (masquerading as "Instant Jif"). David Hawkins (12) on drums.
