TIPS FOR A LUSH LAWN!

Prepare your Mower: Sharpen your mower's blades and service the engine before the start of the season. With a properly serviced mower, you cut less often, use less fuel and mow with less  effort.

Leave Grass Clippings on Your Lawn: Clippings recycle and return nutrients to the soil. A lawn  with clippings needs one-third less fertilizer per year.

Remove Debris From the Lawn: Make sure you rake debris, such as tree leaves, sticks and dead grass from the lawn to make the first mowing of  the season easier. Debris doesn't add nutrients to your lawn.

Mow Your Lawn Fewer Times: Mow only when the grass is three inches high, and remove no more than one-third the leaf surface. Longer grass ensures shade and cool temperature for the soil and makes it more difficult for weeds to grow.

Prevent Weeds: Stop weeds before they break the surface with pre-emergence herbicides. This should be done when the temperature is between 52 and 55 degrees Fahrenheit.

PRUNING TIPS

Pruning is one of the easiest ways to control the size, growth and health of your plants and to renew or increase production. Have a clear vision of what you want to accomplish before you start. By following basic do's and don'ts, you will ensure the results you want.

Do's
1.    Always prune away dead, broken or
       diseased portions of a plant.
2.    Prune flush to a main branch or trunk.
3.    Cover cuts of 1-1/2" diameter or more
       with a protective wood compound.
4.    Keep tools sharp and clean.
5.    Always use proper safety equipment
       when pruning.

Don'ts
1.    Don't leave ragged cuts or stubs.
2.    Don't prune with sprung, dull or
       improper tools.
3.    Don't expect pruning to compensate for
       defects caused by overcrowding,
       poor soil or improper climate.
