F.L.U.S.H.! also known as Friends Living Under Serious Hardships, is a student improvisational theatre group that raises awareness about life. Each year we raise money for a charity. One such charity was Birch Camp, a camp for families of those with HIV. This camp allows families one more summer together. This year we are supporting CHAMPS.(Childrens HIV AIDS Mission Project Services) An organization that raises money for pediatric AIDS. F.L.U.S.H! has been in existence since the Spring of 1997, and I have been a part of it since the Fall of 1997. My friend Barb got me interested, and now the other cast members have become my second family. The shows are complete improv. We start only with an idea on paper of where we would like to go with the story line. It is a progressive story line (like a soap opera), and we use music and acting to convey messages about AIDS, predjudice, sexual assult, alcoholism, homophobia, and many other situations. Some of the songs we have used in the past have come from the musical RENT, as well as popular music of the time. (eg. Push by Matchbox 20) Hopefully through our acting we will reach one person. If we can do that, we have suceeded in what we set out to do. We do travel to other colleges in the area, and we won the POY (Program of the Year) award in 1998.
