1955 11 10 Elvis was attending the fourth annual Country Music Disc Jockey's Convention in Nashville, Tennessee. Elvis was busy enjoying his newfound status, meeting people in the business, attending parties, getting introduced to girls, and excitedly spreading the news of his imminent contract with RCA which Colonel Parker was still hashing out. Elvis was completely uninterested in discussing business matters, content to leave that up to the Colonel and Bob Neal. Mae Boren Axton, however, had business to discuss with him. Mae was a promoter from Jacksonville, Florida who had previously worked with the Colonel and Elvis. From the moment she arrived at the convention, she persisted in trying to persuade Elvis to listen to a new song, promising that it would be his first million seller. Finally, Bob Neal was able to convince a reluctant Elvis to take a few minutes to listen to the song. In the hotel room, Mae played "Heartbreak Hotel" for Elvis for the first time. Upon hearing it Elvis exclaimed, "Hot dog, Mae, play it again." He loved it. She played it for him over and over, and before he left the room, Elvis had the song memorized. He told Bob and Mae that night, "That's gonna be my next record."

Once he found the country and western music he was seeking, he proceeded out of the building; hips swaying, pants fluttering and two-tones gliding towards a waiting taxi in time to the beat. Elvis checked into the Hotel Jefferson. The eyes of the other quests were transfixed on Elvis as he strode through the lobby, especially with his ""rock 'n roll radio"" reverberating through the marble interior. At the front desk, the clerk recognized Elvis (and Elvis new it). But before the clerk could speak, Elvis announced himself with mock self-importance. ""Elvis Presley"" The dramatic effect was lost on the clerk, but it sure made Elvis grin.

There were the low, dark eyebrows, the simmering eyes, a red bandanna tied around his throat above a black silk shirt, his famously full lips an inch from the microphone, as he sang, "If you're lookin' for trouble/You came to the right place." This was Elvis in his electrifying adult prime, taking care of business as only he could.

The party was by invitation only and was the talk of the town. However, the event was short since Elvis arrived late and left early: When he left everyone else followed

1975 12 31 Elvis performs in Pontiac, Michigan. The Pontiac, Michigan concert was a record breaker. Every one of the 60,500 seats was sold making it the biggest audience of a single artist in an indoor concert. The performance grossed over $800,000, making it the largest sum ever earned for a one-night performance by a single artist. The show, however, was not without its problems. A threat on Elvis' life prior to the performance called for heightened security. No incident took place, but following the show, a man found to be carrying a gun was arrested. The weather was frigid and the sound quality was lacking. As if that weren't enough, Elvis ripped the seat of his pants early in the show. Despite the problems, Elvis and the Colonel took home over $300,000 to divide after expenses. Following the show, Elvis and his entourage including Lisa Marie, Vernon, T.G. Sheppard and his wife, and Linda Thompson flew back to Memphis on the "Lisa Marie." They rung in the new year watching old tapes of "Monty Python" shows in Elvis' bedroom
