(Newton Center, October 25, 2002) Been a while, but Barry Bonds remains (by far and away) the best player in baseball. In 2001, at the age of 37, he set the all-time homerun record with 73. His on-base and slugging stats have been off the scale the last coupla years. Ruthian fer sure. He's cracked 600 taters and at 38 seems to entering his prime. Go figure... Now the Series, and they won't pitch to this guy - I mean they WON'T pitch to this guy. Like no one I've seen in 35 years.

(St. Petersburg, September 14, 2000) Not sure I can say anything that hasn't been said, but Bonds and his Giants have really come alive this September, and he is perhaps in line for MVP #4, although Mike Piazza and Jim Edmonds are still in the running. He's slugging .719 and his OBP is .454, and he's amongst the leaders with a career high 47 taters. 8 more gives him 500. Can you say Hall of Fame?

(St. Petersburg, June 23, 2000) Bonds, at the ripe old age of 36, appears to be taking his game up a notch, if that is indeed possible. He's putting up some triple crown numbers (.332/26/52), getting on base (.455) and slugging a Bambino-like .785. Perhaps the most telling statistic is this: he has more intentional base on balls than anyone in history. The Giants are in the mix, playing around .500 ball in what is shaping up as a tough division.

(Boston, August 3, 1999) The Sporting News just named him Player of the Decade. With folks like Griffey, McGwire, Maddux, and Clemens cleating the diamond, this is no empty honor. Barry Bonds is the ultimate all-around player. A three-time MVP and future Hall of Famer, he is chairman of the 400-400 club (homeruns-steals, one member). And downright dazzling with the "D" - he is the finest (and most aggressive) leftfielder in the game, and goes into the gap as well as anyone in history. And his dad was pretty close. Bobby Bonds was a multi-tool player as well (the first 39-40 player), and a great one - one of the most potent lead-off hitters the game has known. Genetics don't hurt none...
