More bad news for Sox fans. Pedro will fade and the Cy Young award will go to David Cone.
Rocket had a great game over the Indians last week. Let's see him do it again.
Kenny Rogers is back in New York again and pitched a beaut the other day. Looks like he can pitch in New York after all. Just not on the big stage.
Knobby has been throwing the ball better these days. Now he has trouble catching it. Then again, that takes care of the need to throw it.
Remember, it was me who predicted the Mets would take the N.L. East. They have more heart than the Braves. Unless they turn into pussies again in September like they did last year.
The Yanks have a new way to platoon left field. Spencer and Ledee just take turns getting injured while the other one plays. Not your typical lefty-righty platoon but it works for me.
Deevy is the best skier in Boston. At least he was the best on his boat last week. Quarter rides a hell of a tube though. Johnny B. gets honorable mention for both events. And I lived vicariously better than any of them.
Jessie (The Body) Ventura is now a total American hero.
That French guy the Knicks picked over Ron Artest is supposed to be a work in progress. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!

(Nyack, August 3, 1999) We would be willing to give you the Rocket back but the Sox have nothing to trade. Except Pedro.
If their were a way to work it out the Yanks would be glad to kick the Braves and Piazza's asses.
I hope the Yanks don't have to play Toronto in the playoffs. The Yanks have beaten Toronto every time this year including David Wells three times. I still do not want to have to face Wells 2 times in a short series. He is a big game pitcher.
By the way, the Yanks lost 2 to the Red Sox because they were looking ahead the the Blue Jay series. And because the Rocket sucks.
Bad excuse - Clemens left with a 5-3 lead. Give the Sox a little credit for heaven's sake - after all the Yanks are still 5-6 games up. After getting crushed in the first game they battled and prevailed in the next two. For whatever reason, the Sox have excelled against the good teams this year, and now have a 5-4 edge on the Yanks, with 3 to play at the Stadium. Just sayin'... --JB
(Nyack, July 6, 1999) Nomar getting the nod in the All Star Game simply means that those damn Beantowners stuffed the ballot box. Derek definitely deserved the nod.
I think Derek should wear his World Series rings to the All Star Game. Then he can go out and wave to the fans and shake hands with Nomar just to remind them all that you can't be voted into the World Series.
Chuck has gone two games without an error now. Lucky for him that when a guys on first, and the next guy hits a grounder, as long as you get the guy running to second there is no error given even if you sail the throw from second ten feet over the first baseman's head. He can thank his catcher for backing up first and preventing the guy who hit the grounder from advancing.
How about that American Womans World Cup soccer team going to the championship game! Go Mia Hamm. She is such a babe.
I think Tiger is a super golfer. I just don't believe he is the best in the world. He just doesn't have the great short game. David Duval should be ranked numero uno.
I think the Mets are going to have to score in more than one out of four games against the Braves if they expect to catch the them.
As always, Ken Griffey Jr. led all vote getters in the All Star balloting. And he deserves it too.
How about that European Football League huh! I think I may give up on the Giants and the NFL and become a Barcelona fan.
Sorry Met fans but Javy Lopez actually deserved the nod at catcher in the All Star game. He has a higher average, higher OBP, higher slugging percentage and throws out more runners. Piazza has more homers and RBI's but has the advantage of having played more games. Piazza is merely the best player on the Mets.
G AB R H HR RBI BB SO SB CS OBP SLG AVG Lopez 56 209 29 67 11 37 18 36 0 3 .380 .560 .321 Piazza 64 252 43 77 16 47 23 33 2 1 .360 .556 .306
The A.L. will win the All Star game.
The Knicks picking some frog over Ron Artest in the NBA draft was unbelievable. Artest will probably spend the next 10 years kicking the Knicks butts.
By the way, this year's Crybaby Award goes to Juan Gonzalez, who refuses to go because he didn't win the vote. Don't let the door hit you on the way out...
Far as the Piazza-Lopez contest goes, sounds like a fundamental difference between AL and NL fans over the years. With respect to Lopez, who's having another fine year, the NL fan would opt for the future Hall of Famer in the hope of winning the game (again). While we're at it, how 'bout Pirate C Jason Kendall, who suffered a nasty broken ankle on Sunday? His numbers (.332, 8, 41, 61 runs) are excellent and he's thrown out 26 of 57 baserunners. Better defensively than the other two and a 2-time All-Star to boot! Well, he ain't playing for a while (next year?) and neither Javy, who is also hurt, so we'll have to settle on Piazza.
(Nyack, June 21, 1999) The NY Bricks are down two games to none now. They will be lucky to win a game.
I love this years U.S. Open. Most golf tournaments these days end with the winner 20 to 30 strokes under par. Sounds like par may be a little high for these guys. As of the third round in this open only one player is under par with a minus one. I just love seeing these guys have to pull out every trick they know just to try and get par. Golf as it should be. I can't believe I am saying this but the final round of the U.S. Open was as exciting as any sport could be. When Payne Stewart sunk that 15 footer on 18 to lock up the win it was just super clutch. And on 17 when Payne put his first shot within 4 feet of the cup only to be matched by Michelson, it was just great sports theatre. These guys were awesome.
I never liked soccer but I find myself rooting for our gals in the Woman's World Cup. I love that little Mia Hamm. What a babe. What an athlete.
The Red Sox cannot keep up with the Yanks even when they are not playing as well as they will. This does not bode well for the Sox.
Chuck Knoblauch went 2-4 on Saturday and was responsible for a run. Unfortunately it was an Angel run which scored shortly after Knobby dropped a routine pop up in short right field. SIGH!
Who is this Tony Fernandez playing in Toronto and hitting .409 as of this writing. He isn't the guy the Yanks had. Or the Mets. It is an aberration. It must be.
I was out drinking with my physical terrorist this weekend. She isn't nearly as mean as she seems at work. She is just as pretty though and very bright. Unfortunately, I have no shot. Probably because she is so bright. Believe me this is about sports.
Kevin Brown. What a great buy.
This thing with Derek, A-Rod and Nomar can only be decided one way. On a year to year basis. I haven't hated the Sox this much since Thurman and that Fisk guy.
(Nyack, June 18, 1999) The Knicks are down one game to none, but from what I saw in game one, this series is all but over. Van Gundy must find a way to stop Houston's twin towers. He might need to bring the two from lower Manhattan. Maybe they can block those guys from Houston.
Yes you read it here. The Mets will win their division. They may also win their league. That doesn't mean they don't suck though. They do.
Roger Clemens looked like the Rocket I have heard about for awhile Thursday night against the Rangers. Struck out 10 of the first 12 batters he faced. If only he would stop giving away leads as soon as he gets them he might start earning some of his wins instead of falling into them. I am truly looking forward to that. I hope it happens.
Things have gotten so bad with Knoblauch (currently hitting under .250) that Scott Brosius looked like a better lead off man the other night when Torre put him in the top spot.
Can you believe the Dallas Stars are up 3-2 in the Stanley Cup Finals? (Yes, hockey is still being played). The only ice in Dallas is in a tall drink. And you better drink fast.
Contrary to my Doctors opinion, I will play golf again. I may never hit 80, but you can be sure I will try.
Andy Pettite does not look very good so far this year. I think he is finding out that the hitters have figured out that he almost always throw his cutter as his out pitch. Major Leaguers adapt to that sort of thing you know.
(Nyack, June 12, 1999) The Yanks will need to make a trade in order to win the World Series this year. I suggest Roger Clemens and Chuck Knoblauch for Homer Bush, Boomer and Graeme Lloyd. Neither of these guys has shown New York anything since they got here. Boomer would give them a big game pitcher, Lloyd the lefty in the bullpen they need and Homer is a very solid second baseman who fields, hits, throws and runs better than Knoblauch. Household names are not always your best buy.
As I predicted before the season, the Mets will win their division now that they have shown the brains and nerve to sit and hopefully rid themselves of Bobby Bo.
Sorry Knick fans but they will not win it all though I admire their recent spunk.
If they do you can credit Van Gundy.
Jeff Van Gundy deserves coach of the year honors. The Knicks are playing over their heads. That is what a good coach gets his team to do.
I still don't like Bobby Valentine but I really loved that disguise bit. That was ala Earl Weaver. The Earl once dressed in the Baltimore mascots costume after getting ejected and managed from their. He was brilliant. Valentine is not.
I think Chuck Knoblauch left his arm in Minnesota and brought some 10 year old girls to New York by mistake. You really have to see this guy play everyday like I do. He SUCKS. This guy puts up more cans of corn than a supermarket.
(Nyack, June 6, 1999)
"Roger Clemens finally broke out his fastball Sunday night. You could tell by how fast it left the Met bats. I still miss Boomer and Homer. Roger was beaten by the Yanks a lot. Now that he is here, despite his record, he has not pitched well at all. Who has he been beating to rack up all those Cy Young Awards? If Roger Clemens were playing anywhere else, his win streak would have ended at 18 games."
For chrissakes, forgive the guy - New York can't forgive a Hall of Famer for blowing one after winning an all-time AL record 20 straight? And remember, this is the National League now - no one wins 125 games in the NL.
"The Yanks have now taken 6 of 9 from the Mets. In my eyes that makes the Mets on a par with the KC Royals."
Note: as of June 6th, the KC Royals have outhit, outscored, and outpitched both the Yankees and the Mets. Now that's some bang for your buck...
"The Yanks will be in 1st by the end of the week."
The Red Sox are doing all they can to bring Stew's prediction to fruition, but the Yankees are not having much luck with the NL either...
"The Mets are the 1980's Yanks. Bad pitching and a few good players. And no team chemistry."
That's a tad harsh...
"The Mets will never win with a 40 year old leftfielder and a washed up Bonilla in right."
You're at least half right, but the Mets did win in the past with a 42 year old centerfielder named Willie Mays... Say, what ever happened to Don Hahn anyway?
"Pedro Martinez could accomplish the unthinkable this year. A 30 win season."
With the 5-man rotation, this would seem almost impossible, but the man is pitching like a demon, isn't he?
"Derek Jeter should be playing in a higher league."
Amen! Proof-positive that there are ballplayers today that are as good as the Old Timers were.
