~Stepping Stone~

Stepping Stone

Well I was, thinkin' back when we were kids
And all the crazy things we did
All the bet you can'ts and the double dares
I'm tellin' my Mom you ain't playin' fair
Our houses were bout half a mile apart
More than just the river ran between our hearts
That led us there, everyday after school
Ever since then I guess I've been your fool

Like a Stepping Stone
Cross the river of love
You watched your step
At the game of push and shove
But when the river was risin'
You'd get caught up in the undertow
That's when you'd hold on tight
To your Stepping Stone

We called it, goin' steady back in Junior High
By 10th grade you found some other guy
From the hottest couple to call it just friends
By Senior Prom, back together again
I felt my class ring was like a weddin' band
I could never get you to understand
You'd just say, "Baby let's wait and see..."
I guess you knew, that I'd always be

Just your Stepping Stone
Cross the river of love
You watched you step
At the game of push and shove
But when the rive was rising
You'd get caught up in the undertow
That's when you'd hold on tight
To your Stepping Stone

(bridge)
When your rivers all run dry
Will you stop and wonder why
When old feelin's start floodin' in
Will you come back again

To your Stepping Stone
And my river of love
This time you slipped and fell
You lost at the game of push and shove
And now the river's risin'
And you caught up in the undertow
You'd better hold on tight
To your Stepping Stone
Baby hold on tight
I'm your Stepping Stone
