Fifty Years Ago

words and music by William O. Richardson

Fifty years ago they said I promise
To love and cherish
Till death do us part
Through good and bad happy and sad
In sunshine and in rain
Forever shall two bodies share one heart

Mom and daddy wouldn't give their blessing
That didn't matter God smiled on their love
I guess that's why today They're still together
And will be long as heaven's up above

So happy anniversary Carl and Violet
May you share many more Under the sun
Today it seems forever means
As long as it's convenient
Thanks for showing us it can be done

Fifty years ago they said..."I promise"
