Howdy! Welcome to my country dance and music page. I've been line dancing for about 9 years and have the great fortune to live in an area surrounded by some of the worlds finest choreographers. If you have a dance, music site, or know of one that would fit in here, please let me know. So polish up those boots...and two-step around for awhile!
The very first GGC was held 7 years ago at the Dunfey Hotel in San Mateo, California. From there it moved to Union City, California where due to it's popularity the venue quickly became too cramped for all the energetic dancers to maneuver. Event director, Charlotte Skeeters, searched and sussed out numerous establishments to relocate the event. The Golden Gate Classic was held at the San Mateo Marriott *formerly the Dunfey* and by all accounts, it was a smashing success.
The Golden Gate Classic held October 2003 was bittersweet. The Vintage 50's and 60's Rock and Roll theme was a huge success with many dancers dressing the part. It was great to see all the old rock and roll clothes again. The Prom Queen, Charlotte, was lovely in her flowing yellow gown, tiara and tennis shoes!!! Men dressed in tuxes and women in vintage prom dresses made the evening one not to be missed. And as always, top notch entertainment was provided by many of our local talent.
It was with much sadness that we saw this Golden Gate Classic be the end of an era. Charlotte has decided to step down as the Event Director. The dance community owes her a hearty round of applause for tireless efforts to present a quality dance event for everyone to enjoy! Thank you Charlotte on behalf of all of those who have enjoyed the Golden Gate Classic over the years.
At the end of the GGC it was announced that Evelyn Khinoo and Mike Sliter were going to take over the reins of the event and it would be held in 2005.
November 5, 2004 the official announcement was made. The Golden Gate Classic will not be held and the name as well as the logo have been officially retired.
The dance community owes a debt of gratitude to Charlotte for her years of dedication to putting on this wonderful event and to Evelyn and Mike for considering to carry on. Sadly, circumstances have prevented this from happening and what we have left are wonderful memories of all the great times we shared.
Thank you to everyone who worked so hard and gave of their time to make all the GGC's such trememdous events - from the instructors who brought us the latest and greatest dances to challenge our abilities, to the vendors who brought us wonderful ways to spend our money *laughs*, and, certainly extremely important, the volunteers whose untold hours went on behind the scenes to make each and every Golden Gate Classic a class act. It will be greatly missed.
Among her MANY credits Charlotte Skeeters can proudly say she was this young man's first instructor....Robert Royston, Worlds Masters Champion!
