The other day I heard some disturbing news
An old friend of mine just lost his chance to choose
He almost took his life
seems the pressures piled high
He wanted too much and was never satisfied
oh yea
When we were young we would play after school
And we would talk about growing up
Who we'd be and what we'd do
He'd always say that he'd be rich one day
No matter what it took you know he had that
determined look
oh yea
The years ahead we went our separate ways
My friends life turned bad
crime and drugs filled his days
I feel blessed with words I was told as a child
An old timer said to me
Live a good clean life son and then you'll learn
to smile
And then he said
I've never asked for much only what I need's enough
I'll get by with what little I own
Should my neighbor need a helping hand
I'll stretch it as far as I can
I'll only reap whatever I have sown
I won't be taking life for granted
I'll treasure every minute of the day
I'll tackle any obstacle I'm handed
Wherever is my path I'll find a way
Wherever is my path I'll find a way
