My name is Ronald Gillis. I was born in North Sydney, Nova Scota, in 1938 to parents Martin and Nora Gillis. I attended school in Iona, Cape Breton and North Sydney, Nova Scotia. After finishing school I started work as a long shoreman on the docks of North Sydney. After nine years working in this position I transferred to C.N. Marine plying the waters of the Cabot Strait and Labrador as a sailor on nine different ships. In 1973 I left the life of a sailor and attained a postion with Canada Post North Sydney. I worked at Canada Post for 15 years and retired on medical furlough in 1989. It was at this point that I started writing. I was in my fiftieth year. During ten years of writing I tried my hand at poetry, short stories and song writing. My song writing led me to FACTOR where I was succesful at attaining their Performance Publishers and Song Writers Demo Award. I am still writing with songs being my main interest now. In summary, I have enjoyed writing for the past ten years and hope to coninue for many years to come.
