Allen was born on
a farm near Gate, Oklahoma in June of 1954.
Allen became a professional
musician at the age of 14, learning to play the Guitar, Pedal
Steel Guitar, Swing fiddle, Bass, and drums.
In his spare time,
Allen also finds time to be both an artist and cartoonist, with
cartoons appearing in various hunting magazines from coast to
coast.
Allen graduated High
School with the Class of 1973 from the Cimarron High School located
in Cimarron, Kansas.
Allen married his
beloved wife Judith on November 3, 1973.
Allen and Judith were
blessed with three children: Travis, age 28, currently living in Hays,Kansas with his wife Leslie, and his daughter Saphira (Allen and Judy's first grandchild!); Michael, age 27, lives in Dodge City, Kansas ; and
Sara, age 24, currently living and working Emporia, Kansas, with her Husband Justin Wilson.
Allen is an accomplished
bowhunter, having taken three Pope and Young record deer over
the last 20 years of hunting. Allen also makes all of his own
equipment including bows and arrows.
Allen has been doing
his show now for 15 years on High Plains Public Radio.
Allen was recently
interviewed by the British Broadcasting Company for his portrayal
of Wyatt Earp in one of the shoot-outs in old Dodge City! Why?
Because even in temperatures above , Allen would not take off his coat. Allen's reasoning
was simple, he didn't think Wyatt Earp would have taken his coat
off, so he didn't either.
Allen OVERSEAS? That's
right!! On Sunday Jan 17, 1999 Allen's picture was in the NewYork
Times as part of a story on Dodge City, and again on Jan 22,
1999 in the International Herald Tribune which is published in
Paris France!
On the evening of February 21, 2000, during
the city council meeting of the City of Dodge City, Kansas, Allen was appointed the Official
Dodge City Marshal by Dodge City Mayor, The Honorable
Gerald H. Schmidt and the city commissioners! As Dodge City Marshal, he has traveled extensively for the City of Dodge.
