The Day Before Farmfest
By David Christensen
It was the day before Farmfest, clear, sunny and warm,
When I was finishing up the chores on my farm.
The work must be finnished, it all must get done.
So tommorrow can be a great day filled with fun.
Tomorrow is Farmfest, I have no time to spare,
I must finish my work before I go there.
The barn must be cleaned, the cattle need hay,
I must give pig shots by the end of the day.
I try to move the hogs, but they break down my gates,
They go outside and run all over the place.
The hogs all run wild, all over the farm,
Not a single one is left inside of the barn.
A small group of them breaks into my shop,
They knock down my tools, the shovels and mops.
A few find my feed bags, layin' on the ground,
They rip 'em open, tear 'em up and drag them around.
The shop is a disaster, but why should I care?
It wasn't any cleaner before the pigs had been there.
Somehow, a pig gets past the fence around the pit,
And now it's drowning in a pool of shit.
From out behind the house comes my barking dogs,
But all they succeed in doing is scaring the hogs.
Many run to the groove, some run to the shed,
While some go over to my garden instead.
The pigs are making a mess of this farm,
But it all could have been prevented, if I had a decent barn.
I should have taken more time to set up the gates.
But I'll get the pigs back, I just need some bait.
So I brought all the food inside the hog pens,
And when they get hungry they'll have to go in.
I lock them out of any other building around,
So they'll have to go to the barn at about sundown.
After a while, a few hogs come in,
I quickly chased them into a small corner pen.
Where I locked them inside so they couldn't get out
With the other pigs which were crazily running about.
But after a while, the other pigs got tired of running around,
They wanted food, and toward the barn they were bound.
And while they were happily eating away,
I swung the gate and locked them all in. (Horay!)
The farm was a mess, a horrible place.
I'm sure you could imagine the look on my face,
As I looked over the buildings where the hogs had been.
To gaze at the mess they had made within.
There was a huge mess which had covered the floors,
Old parts, garbage, tools and hog manure.
I'll clean it tomorrow, right now I need rest.
It looks like I'll miss the first day of Farmfest.
