Music is a collection of sounds which reach our mind through the sense of hearing. It is composed of three parts, Melody (Tune), Harmony (Accompaniment), and Rhythm (Measured Movement). Sound is anything heard, music is a pleasing sound, noise is an unpleasant sound.

1.(Question): What is a tone? (Answer): The name of a sound which is pleasing and musical.

2.(Question): How many essential properties make up a tone, and what are they? (Answer): Four: Length, Pitch, Power, Quality.

3.(Question): What does Length mean? (Answer): The duration of a tone.

4.(Question): What does Pitch mean? (Answer): The highness or lowness of a tone.

5.(Question): What does Power mean? (Answer): The loudness or softness of a tone.

6.(Question): What does Quality mean? (Answer): The character or kind of tone.

7.(Question): How are the relative lengths of tones represented? (Answer): By characters called notes.

8.(Question): How many kinds of notes are there in common use, and what are they? (Answer): Five: Whole note, Half note, Quarter note, Eighth note, Sixteenth note.
