My Daughter Ashley

Hello, and welcome to Me and my Family. Here I will have some stuff on me, and my family. (Suprised?) Most of it will be pics, so it might take a moment to download.

A little bit about Me

Hey, My name is Ed. I am 28 years old. I started this page to teach myself HTML scripting. So, as I learn more things, I hope that you will find it more and more interesting.
Well, as you might have noticed, I am in to NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt! I am also into photography. You can check out some of my pics at the link on the main page.

My Car...a Chevy of course!

Taming the Monster Mile!

Back in May, I had the chance to drive a Winston Cup race car at the Monster Mile in Dover DE. (Thanks Dani) It was a blast. We started the day with a ride around the track in a van. They explained the driving line we were to follow. They also explained about the banking of the track and how it affects the car.

After that, we went in to suit up and have a brief drivers meeting. In the meeting was the do's and dont's while driving the race car. (like dont crash in to the wall.) They also went over safety tips (where the fire extinguisher is, how to shut down the car, etc...)and what the diffrent flags and instructor hand signals meant.

Then we just waited for our turn to drive. Once I got in the car, the adrenaline rush hit. The assistant strapped me in and went over the controls and guages. Once the instructors car hit the track, I was signaled to follow. We started off sort of slow, then kept increasing the speed. It was amazing to feel the speed and how the car reacted to slight adjustments to the acceleration, braking, and the steering. I felt the car feel like it wanted to get loose at on point coming out of turn 2 and accelerating down the back stretch. That scared the hell out of me!. It is amazing to drive those cars and go that fast. It takes so much concentration! Not your typical Sunday drive! Before I knew it, the 10 lap session was over.

I was bummed out to find that they do not time your laps or anything like that. (not to mention that they put me into a Ford!) So I found a guy that was a spectator before I had gone out with a stop watch. I asked him to time my laps if he could. When I returned, the guy let me know that my best lap time was 35 seconds. (about 110 mph) It felt a lot faster than that!

After doing that, I now have a lot more respect for the drivers doing it every week for hundreds of miles.

This is a pic of me driving the car
