Page 5Furman Sines, 82, died Friday in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nancy McElwee in Center Village. He was a former resident of Johnstown, and had been ill but two weeks. Besides his daughter he is survived by four sons: Milton of Johnstown, Tilton of Waverly, Perry of Granville and Furman Jr. of Scarsburg, and sister, Mrs. Viola Needles of Columbus.
The spelling on the headstone is Ferman.

FURMAN SINES, 82, FORMER RESIDENT OF JOHNSTOWN DIED FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE HOME OF HIS DAUGHTER, MRS NANCY MCELWEE IN CENTER VILLAGE. HE HAD BEEN ILL 2 WEEKS AND DEATH RESULTED FROM HARDENING OF THE LIVER. HIS WIFE PRECEEDED HIM IN DEATH. HE LEAVES BESIDE HIS DAUGHTER, 4 SONS, MILTON OF JOHNSTOWN, TILTON OF WAVERLY,PERRY OF GRANVILLE, AND FURMAN JR OF SUNBURY,ALSO A SISTER MRS VIOLA NEEDLES OF COLUMBUS, 18 GRANDCHILDRENAND 7 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN. THE BODY WAS REMOVED TO THE PAUL EMERSON FUNERAL HOME AND SERVICES WILL BE HELD THERE MONDAY MORNING AT 10 AM WITH BURIAL IN GREEN HILL CEMETERY.

Also survived by 1 son, Elijah Needles of Newark, Ohio; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren. She was born and reared at Center Village, Ohio. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the DeVore Funeral Home, Delaware. Rev. Mrs. Marzelle Smith officiating. Burial, Hanover Cemetery.

Settled in Norton County in 1886 --- a Good Man
Sylvester Sines was born in Franklin county Ohio, July 25, 1850 and died in Norton county Kansas August 26, 1911 at the age of 61 years, one m onth and one day. He was married to Minerva Cameron February 7, 1877 in Pickering county Md [sic]. with his wife he moved to Norton county Kansas in 1886 where he lived since except a part of the time the family lived in Graham county. He leaves to mourn a widow and one daughter Mrs. Charles Reedy. Mr. Sines has been a patient sufferer for many months and while everything was done that human hands could do to give him reli ef his friends his family and himself were well aware that the cancer with which he was afflicted was slowly sapping the life blood and his days on this earth were limited. Mr. Sines was a good man a kind and loving husband an indulgent father and a good neighbor. The funeral services were held at the family home, Elder B. W. Mulkey preaching a sermon full of words of comfort to the bereaved ones. The body was laid to rest in Lenoras South Cemetery.

Leopold "Bus" Bahl of McCook will be celebrating his 95th birthday Monday. He was born in Hays, Kan., on Oct. 3, 1910, but came to McCook at an early age and has spent most of his life in the community.
Bus worked at the McCook Gazette for more than 60 years. He started as a carrier and rose to the position of production manager. Cards will reach him at 402 Missouri Avenue Circle, McCook, NE 69001.(Anniversaries ~ 02/15/05)

Leopold Francis "Bus" Bahl died Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook at the age of 97. He was born Oct. 3, 1910, at Hays, Kan., the son of the late Adam and Dorothea (Bissing) Bahl. Bus grew up at McCook where he graduated from McCook High School in 1932.
On Feb. 16, 1935, Bus married June Sines in McCook, They spent their married life in McCook. Bus started with the McCook Gazette as a paper carrier and for many years was Production Supervisor before retiring after 63 years with the Gazette. On April 5, 1944, Bus entered the U.S. Army where he was Communications Chief during World War II. He was a Sergeant and received four Bronze Stars for his service in the Rhineland, Ardennes and the Central Europe campaigns before his honorable discharge on Oct. 16, 1945. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, VFW and McCook Elks Lodge 1434. Bus enjoyed bowling, fishing and hunting but most enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play and was proud to see them grow from very special tots into adults. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Judi Cappel on June 18, 1970; his parents; brothers, William, Edmund, Robert and Walter "Buddy" Bahl; and sisters, Henrietta Thomas, Isabelle Barnes, Marjorie Unger and Jeannie DeForest. Bus is survived by his wife, June Bahl of McCook; one son, Jack Bahl and his wife, June of North Platte; one daughter, Janet Thompson and husband, Ron of Idaho Falls, Idaho; five grandchildren, Janell, Kathleen and Bruce Cappel, Stephanie Luce and Lesli Strubel and husband, James; eight great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and many friends. Rosary will be 7 p.m., Tuesday at Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook with Rev. Gary Brethour officiating. Interment with military honors will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell. Memorials may be given in his name and friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
