Richard C. Sines, 71, of Gahanna, died Wednesday, April 13 1994, at Pataskala Oaks Nursing Center. Born April 8 1932, in Waverly, he was the son of the late Tilton and Cora Johnson Sines. Mr. Sines was a communications engineer for Ohio Bell Telephone, a Navy veteran of Korean War and World War II, and a member of the Telephone Pioneer and Independent Order of Foresters. He is survived by his wife, Doris P.; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Teresa, of Athens, a daughter, Kathy Sines of Gahanna, a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and James Smith; a grandson, Matthew Smith of Gahanna; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. Services will be Saturday, 1 p.m. at Schoedinger Gahanna Chapel, 335 West Johnstown Road, with Rev. Newell Smith officiating. Private burial services will be conducted for the family only. Virgil S. Lafferty, 86, died Wednesday (June 7, 2006)?at Hillcrest Nursing Home.
He was born Dec. 27, 1919, at Otis, Colo., to William S. and Myrtle (Sines)?Lafferty.

He grew up in Marion and graduated from Marion High School in 1937. He attended McCook Junior College before returning to farming on the family farm.

On June 19, 1943, he married Nadene Welsch at McCook. They farmed in Red Willow County and Decatur County until his death.

He was a member of the Methodist Church, the Red Willow County Farm Bureau, the Red Willow County Fair Board, and the Red Willow County Extension Club. He was an active leader in the Beaver Valley Beavers 4-H Club and the Star Valley 4-H?Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant son, Alva Lafferty; brothers, Kenneth and Wayne; and one sister, Lois Meyers.

Survivors include his wife, Nadene Lafferty of McCook; four sons, Dean Lafferty and wife, Sandra of Salina, Kan., Albert Lafferty and wife, Jody of Weatherford, Texas, Rodney Lafferty and wife, Beverly of Boise, Idaho and Galen Lafferty and wife, Jackie of Danbury; one brother Cecil Lafferty of McCook; two sisters, Jean Hunt of Plainsville, Kan., and Evellyn Stinnett and husband, Gene of McCook; seven granchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Saturday at Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook with the Rev. Dr. Jeffery Thurman officiating. Interment will be in the Danbury-Marion Cemetery at Danbury.
